Melodyne updates?
So I have owned melodyne editor V2 for a while now. Got this amazing email today, $49 to upgrade to Editor 4.1. But reading around the web it's hard to tell if it's worth it. what I mean is "changes that matter" Any thoughts? Thanks

V2 was a long time ago. I don't remember what's changed since. Did V2 even support ARA?

V2 supports ARA. You need V4 for ARA2.

If you got V2 with Sonar Platinum, you should be able to get a free upgrade to V4 Elements. This is worth doing, as the detection is way better. I noticed a big difference when dragging audio on to MIDI tracks with V4. However the move to Editor is worth considering as this gives you polyphonic detection/correction.

If you have V2 Editor forget about V4 Essential. Celemony only supports one version of Melodyne on a PC.

I think the deal was to upgrade v2 Editor to v4 Editor. msmcleod was just saying if you had v2 Essentials the upgrade to v4 Essentials should be free.

Yeah, I misread the post. The bundled version of Melodyne does not matter. FWIW, everyplugin.com has a better price for the upgrades and take paypal payments. Just be aware the current release is a problem for some users of SONAR and CbB. While not showstoppers using the tempo map and audio to MIDI features are a little awkward ATM. If you choose to upgrade, there is no going back to V2.

Well went to Sweetwater and bought it. Just came back here. It's editor Version 4.2, so maybe bug fixes. I'll try it out tomorrow. Too late now.

IMHO the detection of simple instrument data like piano/rhyt./arp.guitar/bass is quite well (in V2 and V4), but the detection of vocals, solo guitar and of polyphonic data like synth, choir, ... is very bad, especially related to note separations. I use Melodyne very often and I always have to do a lot of time consuming adaptations in the detection mode, before I can do any real changes! But nevertheless I like Melodyne, because there are a lot of possibilities how to use it. The stability of its code is another question! But since I do a lot of saves in between and avoid to do some critical changes during playback (e.g. changing the loop position, switching to detection, ...) I have less crashes! Marc

Hey Marc That (note detection) was one of the main gripes I found when I searched web for editor V2 vs Editor V4.2. Folks were saying that their wasn't enough attention paid to updating note detection as there should be. But for $49, I upgraded anyway.

One thing you might consider is buying V4 at the sale price, but waiting until the bugs are fixed to install.

What bugs for Editor V4.2? I downloaded but haven't installed. I still use Platinum. Should I have waited or not upgraded at all?

I may be wrong but the bugs I believe people are talking about is in the CW FREE essential\element versions. Not sure the Editor version has the same bugs. I have installed and used in Splat, haven't tried it in BL yet. Also have not dug in deep.

To my knowledge, the issues were noted going from 4.1 to 4.2 (regardless of version, as they are the same code). The details are in other threads (algorithm choice needing to be input each use, etc.).

I have Melodyne Studio 4.2, latest version - this "had" the bug, but doesn't seem to do it all the time now! It certainly had the wrong algorithm issue when I first installed it though Nigel
