Melodyne users... Stand-alone mode or VST?

For those of you that use Melodyne, do you use the stand-alone mode or the VST form within SONAR? I've been trying to use the VST within SONAR, but it's so difficult. My biggest problem is, you cannot select the playback time from within Melodyne. Therefore you have to keep going back and forth between the Melodyne window and the SONAR window to fiddle with where playback begins.

I use it VST style but I have 2 monitors and just put Melodyne over on the other screen.
    But I feel your pain.

    I use VST.
Don't load too much in Melodyne in one go. Never the whole song. Just the portions that need fixing. When one portion of 30 to 60 sconds is edited, bounce it to track and take the next one.
That way you'll avoid the many possible glitches and annoyances that can occur.

In my personal experience: Never close a project with active, unfinished instance of Melodyne in it.
There may be severe difficulties in re-opening the project.

I have only the Plug-in version, though, maybe the newer versions are more stable.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.

    Melodyne v2.1 supports rewire.
With Melodyne rewire slaved, you can start/stop within melodyne and the rewire master (sonar) syncs playback.

I use it in VST mode inserted in the FX bin.

On my old lap top I had to do what Kalle said...load only part of the song..... work on it and then bounce it then hit the next section and so on. BUT, on my DAW that I built 3 years ago, I'm able to load entire song tracks and have no problem. I have even had 3 tracks with melodyne on them running.

It all depends on your computer, the memory, and how many other things are in the project and running in real time.

The only nit I have with melodyne and start times is that melodyne plays to it's own clock.  So if I start playback, and then click on the time line to instantly rewind to a specific point..... X1 makes the jump and keeps playing from that point which I just clicked..... but melodyne keeps going like nothing happened and they are out of sync totally.

If I stop playback, and then click a new start point on the time line, melodyne starts from there just like it needs to and plays perfectly in sync.

I can also listen to a track and have one note that needs repair...that maybe I missed somehow. All I need to do is set my start time a measure before that note..... place melodyne in capture mode.....hit play to let melodyne capture the few bars of music..... and hit stop at any point after the note. I can edit that note.... bounce the result to the track and life is good.

But you are correct.... you can not select the start time from inside melodyne's GUI. It must be done in X1's start time on the time line.

To me that is not a big problem.

I use the Editor version but exclusively in Studio One V 2 pro because of the ARA integration. Awesome. If you have serious note editing this combo is worth it just to get the job done with out fuss

I use Melodyne but the old version UNO, and only stand-alone.  So I do the export of the file, work with it outside of the project, adjust what I need, then bring that back into the project - clunky, I know,  but it works.   I'm wanting to upgrade, but what I really want is the full functionality that Studio One V2 has, as Mudgel has above.  I'm so hoping that X2  at some point will also bring this functionality in, because I not only love CW Sonar X1  but I also don't want to relearn a whole new DAW.

VST.  Agree about the Now time, but since I have a V-Studio 700, I can use the T-Bar/X-Ray to fade out Melodyne and the scroll wheel to move around, so it isn't too bad.

I do both about 50/50.  If I really need to hear the vocal (or whatever) in the context of the track...it's the plugin.  If I need to just hear the track soloed...it's stand alone.  Quite often with vocals I'll do a quick "rough" in stand alone and then "tweak" inside Sonar with the plug.  The latest version of the plug is much more stable.  YMMV.

I use the VST.  I have the Melodyne window just under Sonar's Time Ruler so I don't really find it a problem to move around time wise.  It would be nice if Sonar supported ARA, but I'd imagine that's aways off if at all.

    Melodyne v2.1 supports rewire.

I just tried this, and it's awesome. Playback does sync, and you can in fact control playback start/stop from within Melodyne.

However, how on earth do you get the vocal clip onto Melodyne at a specific place in a song?? I'm trying to edit "verse 2" of my song, and when I drag-drop it into the Melodyne window, it always takes the clip to the very beginning of the song. And I can't move it forward. Help??
