Memorial ride for our friend had an enormous turnout.

Yesterday at 10:00a.m. Tallahassee area cyclists and bicycle friends from all over the country gathered together to observe a memorial bicycle ride for our friend Dave Baton. Dave and his son Jakob had been hit by an automobile two weeks ago. Dave was killed and Jakob survived.

Here's Jakob on his bicycle yesterday surrounded by Dave's familiy and friends as we rode through town as a remembrance for his father.

The city of Tallahassee provided a police escort as 357+ riders slowly rode together while thinking of Dave.

Here's a link to more photos and part of the story:

Personally, I was amazed to see so many people. The old timers and the kids of kids came out. All the shops ran on temp crews as the owners and regular staff all came to ride together in friendship and comradery.

We were a tremendous and unexpected inconvenience to car traffic, yet many drivers took the opportunity to get out of their cars and share gestures of kindness and understanding.

It was a powerful experience.

I just wanted to share some small town USA stuff with everyone... it helps me grieve.

best regards,
mike

I'm glad to hear that you there was such a great turn out.  It also sounds like everything went well.  Well done.

It seems like a great memorial to your friend Dave.

Should auld acquaintance be forgot--hey, who the hell are you guys?

Heartwarming stuff indeed, and such a wonderful tribute.
