Message to Brandon Ryan
Since you are familiar with the 32 v 64 bit differences in Sonar X1, and have spoken about related issues (e.g., BitBridge), can you possibly help me with a major frustration I am having? I have been unable to run RealGuitar or Vir2 in Sonar and this is preventing me from making any progress on my outstanding (and overdue) projects. I originally tried to install RealGuitar and RealStrat (which I used in earlier Sonar versions on an older PC) without knowing a 64-bit updater was required. Trying to insert one as a soft synth gave me a "soft synth may not be properly installed" message. Following MusicLab's directions carefully, I uninstalled all Musiclab projects and removed the dlls from Cakewalk's VST folder. I then reinstalled RealGuitar, and then ran the 64-bit updater. Standalone mode is fine. (I am waiting on RealStrat since RealGuitar is what I need.) I validated that the RealGuitar dll is in the Cakewalk VST folder. There is no RealStrat dll. RealGuitar does not show up as a VST. Oddly, both RealGuitar and RealStrat show up as choices under Insert | Soft Synth | Musiclab (though not in the VST folder). Musiclab said not to select those and indeed they do not work. The strangest thing is that RealStrat even appears when I have absolutely deleted its dll file. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, rescanned VSTs, added and removed folder paths for Sonar's VST scans several times and cannot get this to work. It is as though Sonar is stuck with the old 32-bit installs no matter what I do. Note that I had the same problem with Vir2 Acoustic Legends HD, although I have spent less time working on it. This is a huge problem for me and I have spent at least a week on it. Is there any possibility something is set wrong in Sonar and causing multiple VST issues? Thanks.

have you contacted tech support about this issue?.they will get back to you in 2 buisiness days.so if you filled a ticket out and sent it in to cakewalks tech support they should have already gotten back to you on this.because i had seen your earliers threads on this.(for awhile now) did you fill one out?

I will, thanks. I did not at first because (a) not initially sure if it was Musiclab or Sonar, (b) the Sweetwater installation of Sonar, V-Studio, and other plug-ins had a lot of issuse, so I was working with them and in theory they were talking to Cakewalk and (c) not sure how to fill out a ticket. When Sweetwater installed, I did not get feedback on what they had or hadn't registered, etc., so I am having to put that together. For example, I do not have a full Sonar manual (pdf).

To my understanding the 64 bit version is still in beta. I would not use it if you are having problems. I run Real Guitar as a bitbridged synth and it runs fine under X1.

yes calewalk will help you even if the issue is non cakewalk..there obviously not going to walk you through how to use a waves plug in.but if your having an issue like this were it relates to cakewalk they will walk you right through this whole thing.as long as your a regestered user of course.if your not regestered its not worth calling or emailing they won accept anything without a serial#.i wish i could help but i dont know anything about real guitar.sorry i just figured this would point you in the right direction.the tech support tickets are easy to fill out.

When I purchased X1 from Sweetwater they told me to call them for any problems with X1, not Cakewalk. Not sure why, but that's the way they want it, so I would keep talking to Sweetwater if I were you.

Actually, X1 didn't come with a PDF manual. There was a huge fuss over it. It's available for download now, but it didn't come on the installation DVD's and wasn't available for quite some time. It made trying to read the manual without having X1 up and running a pain.

Chuck, What version of real Guitar are using? I too had the same problem, but My version was the earlier Real Guitar 1.5. The problem I found was that Real Guitar 1.5 did not work in a 64 bit environment. Also read here for additional information on RealStrat and Real guitar 2.0 in Win 7 64 bit environment. http://www.musiclab.com/community/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2558 Peace

konradh: Do you have User Account Control on, if yes, turn it off and restart the PC? Try uninstalling and re-installing by rightclicking on the RealGuitar installer and selecting "Run as administrator," making sure you note the install directory for the 32bit and 64bit versions. With SONAR closed, rightclick on the SONAR icon on the desktop, select properties, click on the Advanced button near the bottom, click the box nex to "Run as administrator" so that a checkmark is in the box, click Apply and OK. Start SONAR and use the Cakewalk plug in Manager utility to add the path where the 32bit and 64 bit plug ins are installed, scan the plug ins, and now see if they will load. Note: When I ran the 64bit updater, it caused the 32bit version to stop loading, but after reinstalling the 32bit version, both the 32bit and 64bit versions are now working for me in SONAR X1. There were also multiple instances of RealGuitar in the list of softsynths in SONAR, I had to try them all (2) and take note of which worked (loaded without issue) and use that one each time I loaded RealGuitar. Hope this helps.

Thanks very much for all the help. I will try these suggestions. A couple of notes: 1-Sweetwater preinstalled a bunch of stuff including X1 on a Creation Station I bought from them, and there was a little confusion getting the discs after the fact, so I don't yet have a full manual. I will follow up based on the advice here. 2-Sounds like a good suggestion from Thomas (who also kindly replied on the RealGuitar forum). 3-Re: Running 32-bit as bitbridged: I don't know the procedure for this but will investigate. I greatly appreciate everyone's time helping here. BTW, I used to be a studio player and cut a lot of tracks on actual guitars (even though keyboards was my speciality). I injured my hands and guitar is really hard now--thus the plugins.

3-Re: Running 32-bit as bitbridged: I don't know the procedure for this but will investigate. When you select a 32bit plug in to run in SONAR X64 version, it is automatically loaded with BitBridge. The problem with BitBridge is that useful icons that are supposed to be in the top right corner of all plug ins is not present when a plug in is loaded using BitBridge. Those icons are used to access certain features such as the step sequencer, the "give all keystrokes to plug in" option, and the MIDI Learn option related to the plug in's GUI, etc.) Those icons are present when using the commercial jBridge utility. JBridge serves the same function as BitBridge. It costs about $21 US bucks, but is worth every penny.

dwcaldwell: That's good to know, but those icons should be on the same window as the main GUI. How'd you find out about that? I learned something new today. :) That being known, jBridge still offers a Plus, becasue some plugins are problematic when using BitBridge, but work well using jBridge. And if a user encounters a problem with a plug in using jBridge and reports it, the author is quick to reply and good at what he does, so the problem will likely be resolved fast. Must say, though, it is good to know how to get those icons to show using BitBridge. Thanks for sharing. :)

For what it's worth (and maybe I'm late to the party) but I run Real Guitar, Real Strat and Real Lespaul under Windows 7 64 bit in Sonar X1 64 bit with no problems I installed X1, bought Jbridge, and after installing the Musiclabs guitars went into the plugin manager and told them to run using Jbridge Looking forward to the 64 bit versions once they are released, so I can run more instances of these guys at once (strum, solo and chunk at once on separate tracks)

Yeah, it's good to point out that the 32bit versions of RealGuitar and RealStrat run well in SONAR X64 using jBridge, but it's better to use a native x64 plug in (and RealStrat and RealGuitar have x64 betas that work well for me.)

I appreciate the help, but at this point Sweetwater has asked that I return all the involved components (Computer, V-Studio, disks, etc) so they can install from scratch and figure out what is going on. Right now here is what does not work: RealGuitar, RealStrat, Vir2 Acoustic Legends, built-in Fantom HW synth (which is loaded as a VST). Fab Four, Vienna Symphonic, and Ivory II seem to be better, but crash sometimes. In addition, Sonar sometimes can't find the audio drivers and MIDI interfaces sometimes require a PC reboot. We obviously have something very wrong in the initial set-up. Ripping out everything, shipping it back, then reinstalling and cabling is not a happy thing but i think we have run out of options. Thanks very much. If there is a silver lining, it is that I have learned a lot along the way--but I'd prefer to be ignorant and have a system that works.
