Metronome and Meter in Sonar

Greetings all,

I've been using some version of Cakewalk/Sonar for many years, mostly to create MIDI accompaniments for the choruses at the school that I teach at.  I've always been a bit baffled by how Sonar handles meter.  It seems that now matter how the meter is set, the given tempo needs to be entered in quarter notes relative to the meter.  My current example is in cut time.  The challenge comes in that I am playing written accompaniments so would like the MIDI measures to track with the written measures.  I have 2/2 set as the meter but have to set the metronome as if it is in 4/4. 6/8 meters have been a real challenge in the past.  Is there a way to correct for this by assigning beat value to a written note?  i.e. Half note=60 vs. Quarter note equals 120?

Thanks,
Eric

You know you can enter meter changes and tempo changes. I think tempo is bpm. But my measures always match the music in Sonar. When you have a two beat measure in the middle of a piece that is 4x4, change the meter and change it back around the measure.

I make some videos. This one shows how to do a physical loopback on the RME UCX to get many more equalizer nodes.

Sorry if I didn't field your question properly. I don't know how to do what you are asking.

I don't remember which version introduced this. But the current version of Sonar allows the metronome to be subdivided by 1/2, 1/3, or 1/4. Just click on the metronome icon in the control bar.

It was not always this way. However I never use the metronome anymore. I find simple Step Sequencer patterns to be a much more useful alternative (especially for triple meters like 6/8 or syncopated beats).
