Metronome for specified measures only???
I have always had my own click track built into my "Normal" template that triggered a hihat sound from my Alesis QS8 controller. But lately with the latest build of X1b I've had several projects that are doing crazy things as regards my controller settings. So...I started using the Metronome in X1. Actually I quite like it except for one thing. After I record my initial drum and bass parts on a project (usually starting at bar 3...two for count in) I'd erase the rest of my click track save for bars one and two. Is there a way to adjust the metronome to only play for a specified number of measures only ( in my case two bars)?? That way I could use it during the whole track while recording my main rhythm parts and then just hear it on the two bar count in. Thanks for any info.

Man I wish I was at my DAW. I haven't looked, but the metronome has always been adjustable - different settings for recording and playback, as well as the number of count in measures. Brian

Yea, I'm not at mine either. I bet there's a way to do this. But I also bet it'll involve going in and changing parameters everytime I want to do it. I was hoping there might be something like a "keybinding" that would let me do it on the fly. And maybe there is.

I route the metronome to a bus and then add a volume envelope to it and drop it out after the measure where you want it.

u can set it have two count in measure but they lead up to zero, so the very beginnning of you 1st beat may get cut off OR it will leave you hanging if ur song doesnt start on beat 1. i would go with the guy above me who's freakin out. his idea i solid.

Oooh, volume envelope on the bus is a great idea! But in cases like this, or the other metronome thread going on, just bounce something down and make it a groove clip. I have a hi-hat/clave loop I use in almost every project and thus have total control over it.

OK, so here's my new question...is there a way to record the output of the metronome (I like the Hi and Lo ping setting) to an audio track???

The best way I have found to record the output of the met is to just go into the Cakewalk User Data folder which is in the Cakewalk folder in your program files. Once you are in there you should have a Sonar X1 folder or whatever the current version is. Within that there will be a folder called Metronome. There you will find all the WAV files for the met in Sonar. I just add the Hi and Lo that I use to a metronome folder I created in the loop browser. Just drag the Hi and Lo over to a new audio track for however many bpm's you need and bounce to clip. Change your 4/4 met loop (for ex) into a groove clip and they drag it however long you need it in your project. Now you can do whatever you want with it. (On a side note if the groove clip expands longer than what you want just go into the loop construction view and make sure the number of measures is the same as your project.) Sorry for the long answer as it is my first post.

Well here's what I did. I took mho34's advice and simply loaded in the Ping Hi and Ping lo onto an audio track in my Normal Template snapped to quarter notes. Then I bounced that to a clip and copied that to the second measure. Then I bounced that to a clip. I did this so I that my clip was longer than one measure. Then I split the clip precisely at the beginning of the 2nd measure and discarded everything to the right. Then I groove clipped my one measure clip. Then I rolled it out 150 measures making sure to leave it as a groove clip. Then I saved it as my new Normal Template. Works like a charm at any tempo. I'll make a couple more in different meters and save them as track templates. Problem solved. Thankee kindly.
