Microphone detection

Sonar keeps detecting my Realtek mike which is in my USB Webcam, can I stop Sonar from tracking it rather than un plugging cam. Its the usual Error message. The above Audio /Midid device was disconnected from your system etc.

One thing you can try that I think will work in your case if you typically leave the USB Webcam plugged in is to simply uncheck it from the drivers you are using in Preferences | Devices. This will make it no longer show up in menus or automatically set as a recording device when Arming a track. If you tend to plug and unplug the device you may get mixed results with that method because SONAR is looking for newly connected devices when scanning audio devices. If you are using an Audio Interface, setting your driver mode to ASIO will prevent the webcam from being used as a device since it is unlikely to support an ASIO mode. Adjusting the driver mode can be done by using Preferences | Playback and Recording.

Oddly enough Lance it doesn't show up in Audio or Midi preferences, so I'm unable to de-select it.

the Realtek is your audio sound card and not affiliated with your web cam. unless your web cam is an audio/video combo which even then, I believe the audio part of the cam would use your onboard audio card.
What are you using for a soundcard, is it a Realtek ?

Hi Chuckbaby Cam is both Audio and Video, My Audio for Sonar is a Focusrite 8i6. if I unplug the cam from USB no problem, but its plugged in at the back of computer so bit of a fuss to get to.

You have 2 options if you don't want to unplug it:

1- go in to devise manager in your windows preferences and temporarily disabling the driver for it.
2- use windows sound preferences and disabling the sound from there.

A solution to devices that need to be plugged in at the rear which I use is a USB extension cable. I have 2 of them and they terminate on my desk. I use them to plug in USB drives etc.
My front panel  USB 2.0 ports are already occupied with my iLock and a wireless mouse dongle.
Only bummer is the extension cables are USB 2.0 so it slows down transfers.
