Interestingly they define low latency as being below 100ms. I define low latency as being below 10ms. Mmmm.

@jeffb64... hahaha. If you use technobabble and the listener isn't familiar with computers you can make anything sound good. I could probably spout off the specs of a Commodore 64 to 90% of the people I know IRL and they'd think it was the bees knees if I spoke enthusiastically enough.

Having had a look at the blog, isn't it referring to more about video than serious music making ? In fact there was only one comment pertinent to musicians. Though Skype and Lync users should be ok ........ The latency will depend on the way your audio device drivers have been written and how they react with W8, no ? I think it will be more a question of wait and see - wait until your audio device maker brings out drivers optimised for W8 and see if they make any difference. I'll keep W7, at least Presonus have drivers for it. The FS2626 is a legacy product, so drivers may not even be created. My 2€ cents. Cheers, Jerry

My prediction, and you heard it here first, is that Windows 8 will be the Windows ME of this decade. The UI is just atrocious for desktop computers, and not terribly exciting for touchscreens, either.

I dont get whats the big deal about the UI? It's just a more informative start menu. You can easily just stay in the classic Windows Desktop mode. It's much better for multi monitors also. You can have 2 monitors in classic desktop mode and a 3rd in metro mode.

The latency they are referring to is for video/audio communications, which includes the time it takes for media to encode/send from one computer to another and decode/display over the internet. This really has nothing to do with professional-level audio recording. For what it's worth, I don't think the Metro tiles make much sense on a large screen- they were originally designed to be touchable on smaller screens. Not sure if the classic Desktop mode will be ok for everything yet as I've only seen/heard what other people have said. I am intrigued by the drop in memory usage noted by the Cakewalk folks. That is cool. I will probably stay with Windows 7 for a long time on my DAW because it is working great and reinstalling is a bit of a PITA. ;-) Peace, Tunes

May I add to the confusion? http://social.msdn.micros...31c89765?prof=required Metro will not support midi? I also read somewhere else that it will not support ASIO but they are trying to move everything toward VOIP... I need someone who is much smarter than I am to look at this. I've been digging around for more info on the ASIO driver/Windows 8 thing but I cannot find a clear answer. I assume that it is much ado about nothing as usual, at least I hope so... but from some things I read I get a bad nagging that W8/Metro is going full bore for the user who listens to music and watches videos at the expense of those who make music and video. I hope I am wrong. J

Correct. It won't support midi, Asio or loading of any VSTs. Metro is really a 1.0 version. Maybe the next version will support it.
