Microsoft Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant popup on W-10 machine? Also OC question..

I upgraded this laptop to W-10 last year but in the last few days I have been getting a large white background popup window that says it is a Microsoft Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant. Like a dummy I ran it. Then I began to wonder if it is legit since I'm already running W-10. I went to Programs and uninstalled it.
Have you seen anything like this?
I'm going to make an image of my C drive and upgrade my DAW later this week, or next. Will my Octa-Capture still work well?

Thanks!
Julien

Sure sounds like malware. Scan the hell out of the machine, and consider an image taken at this stage as potentially infected.

It's there to change Windows settings like what apps you want and default programs.

You should restore your PC from a point back in time.
Run all the anti-virus and malware you can.
When in doubt, Google it first to see what others think. Never go for it unless you are 100% sure.

Thanks.. I did a quick scan with Norton 360, it found one tracking cookie and resolved it. I run Malwatebytes pretty regularly, I have the premium version, I'll run it again. I removed the program yesterday, it just tried to run again, I stopped it.
Any ideas of other scanners to use. There used to be an online scanner I used but I can't remember the name, I'm sure I can Google it.
I'll also do a Google search for this.

Thanks and I'll let you know if I find out anything. I just backed up but not after doing a system restore. I should do a SR and then a drive image, been putting it off.

    Thanks.

    I found this: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-windows_install/windows-10-upgrade-assistant-keeps-coming-back/f5c1e136-2fe0-497d-b98c-cf646489d0b1

When I go to the program location/properties I get the same as the person in this thread: C:\Windows10Upgrade\Windows10UpgraderApp.exe /ClientID "Win10China:VNL:Hadron3:{}"

I am going to follow the advice given to reinstall the November update and repair. I DON'T like this one little bit. I thought W-10 was more secure. I never had problems like this with W-7. I don't connect my DAW with W-8.1 to the internet other than to update Cakewalk or third party programs and drivers. I'm about to image the C drive and update to W-10 on my DAW but this has me nervous.
I'm not sure how I got infected. I don't open attachments from anyone. I did respond to an email from a friend from whom I keep getting weird links in email, maybe that was a mistake.. IDK. It's ALWAYS something.

I and one other person that I know of had an issue with the latest Win 10 Insider version (14383).  I have a triple boot system, Win 10, Win 7 and Win 10 Insider Preview.  They are all listed correctly on the OS boot screen.  When the latest Insider version was installed, it renamed the Win 10 version to Win 8.1 on the OS boot screen (I still had Win 10 just the boot screen was renamed).  I had upgraded Win 8.1 to Win 10 and apparently in the BIOS or wherever its stored Win 8.1 is still listed, for Win 10, and the insider upgrade keyed on that.

I had to run bcdedit to correct the listing.

    Thanks.
I read a little and looked at winver, it was 10.0, so I chanced using the MS tool and reinstalled W10. Everything went perfectly. I now have ver 1511 and some things now work that were not working before like HP Update Assistant (or whatever they call it). It hasn't worked for probably two years. I don't know what to say... I can't complain!
It did it's thing, reinstalled and everything is just right, it even kept my privacy and location settings off.

    Some faith in MS restored.
