Microsoft pusher
ok - the MS "update" pusher keeps a message in the download center that I have not yet downloaded Microsoft Silverlight. first of all, it pisses me off that I can't tell the message center to never tell me about "XXXX" program again. it just sits there forever and I have to check everything except it in order to get my updates. 2nd - what the heck is it and why would I need it? it doesn't look like anything that I would really benefit from so why is it so important to MS that I download it?

It's already on my computer, but I have no idea what it does. I have a thing like that, it's called Sonar I think.

Yeah, I noticed that they dropped that option with Win 7, but at least it's stopped bugging me about IE9.

What do you expect from software that requires you to click on the "Start" button when you want to shut down?

Silverlight is Micro$oft's "rich media" streaming protocol. If you watch Netflix on your computer, odds are that you've been using it and didn't know it, as Netflix uses it to deliver content to subscribers (at least to Windows systems, I don't know if it applies to any other OS). I like it, it's actually been a smoother and more stable than some of the other options available.
