Microsoft should buy Cakewalk. Sonar should be the Logic/GB of Windows.

some are saying that "no one will buy it, stop kidding yourself"
others are saying "it must be sold, Gibson won't just walk away from it without a return on investment"

both cannot be true.

I think microsoft should buy it, just as Apple bought Logic.
The basic version can be included with windows (as it is with GarageBand and Mac), then millions will upgrade to Sonar when they need more functionality.

There has always been a strong relationship between cakewalk and microsoft- a commitment, it seems.
I have plenty of criticism of the microsoft corporation, but i still see this as a sensible arrangement.

Windows 10 is actually pretty great, and i think sonar is running better now than at any time prior.

Viable. It's up to someone in MS or a group of someones. If Gibson doesn't price it out of the stratosphere. If filing for bankruptcy they can't be too choosy. If the lawyers decide it's a great time to buy a company for someone.

I feel the opposite way. I think companies like Microsoft/Gibson that have too much on their plate already would not give sonar proper attention for it to thrive. The last couple of acquisitions were by compabies where cakewalk was one of many products and definitely not star product. Microsoft blows at media creation products

I think this is a good idea. Its better then the alternative! I must confess I can't understand why Gibson is not selling it.

what a kick in the guts this has been. i was kind of expecting something like this so when it happened I thought 'ok'. but after a bit of thought about the decades of work to make such an incredible piece of software day after day, months, years... -- it's suddenly going to be abandoned! It's actually a bit tragic.
