Midi Export Question

I recently took a band into a great studio to do an album. Since I was going to do the bass and key parts myself, I told the engineer that I would lay those tracks at home and send him the files. I managed to export the bass track to a wav and send it via dropbox just fine. However, I'm stumped on the midi. You'd think there would be a simple command to export a midi track. And yes, I understand that MIDI contains no sound, etc. :)

I've tried everything I know to do including reading through the forums but most of the questions I found about this were regarding pre-X series products from Cakewalk. From what I understand I need to record the file onto an audio track but I'm missing something in the translation. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is there no way to send just the midi file itself? He really doesn't want an audio file.

I think you simply "Save as" and choose MIDI as the format.
IIRC an easy solution is to drag the MIDI-track to Workdesk, and save.
It's a small file and easy to send with e-mail.

(Regarding you problem solving:You can not record MIDI on an audio track.)

If the MIDI track has multiple clips, select the track and Bounce To Clip to combine them into one clip first. Then just drag that clip outside of SONAR and on to the Windows desktop. You'll now have your MIDI file for that track.

I think there are a total of 3 ways to take a project that contains both MIDI and Audio and create a Mid. File only.
    As said above=
    Drag and drop the track
    Export MIDI
    Save As MIDI

I was able to drag and drop the track to the desktop and into my dropbox. Thanks guys!

I do have one question though. Cactus Music, you listed Export MIDI, I saw that as an option in my export menu but it is grayed out. Now that my immediate problem is solved (thanks again everyone) anyone have an idea why this function would be grayed out?

A MIDI track must be selected for the option to be available.
