This is excellent news!!!

I'm most interested in the first 2 items on that list as this will be a definite game changer. Looking forward to installing the Beta and testing it out (very glad to see ALL these improvements/fixes/enhancements by Jam Origin).

Yeah, me too....glad I jumped on it as well. (I actually posted that original thread in these forums on Midi Guitar (when it was in it's initial Beta infancy) ).

I have to say it works pretty well. It's not 100%, but its pretty close. Note tracking is almost perfect and the bending adds a whole new world of expression to it. I can't wait to try it on a song. Maybe I'll make a Youtube video going over it soon.

I must have missed a few updates, I was on beta 4 and polyphony was disabled on it. Just did a comparison to my Sonnus G2M (monophonic) and Casio DG-20 (polyphonic), and Midi guitar has made them totally obsolete. I'm curious to know how closely MG 2 compares to those expensive pro midi guitar setups.

Hiya Grant,
I think the best way to make a proper decision on this is to download the newest version and extensively test it out. Only you would know how it responds to your playing style/how much you may need to adjust you technique to get the results you want.
As far as pro midi guitar setups, I don't think you can get a better product for $100. The closest thing I've seen is the Fishman.

Oh, I got er when you first posted version 1 a while back. They seemed to have fixed everything for me with this update.
I recall seeing modules and special pick-ups a few years ago for live guitar to midi conversion. I remember wanting one but they were pretty costly and had to scratch it off the list. Glad I did now

Re: Midi Guitar 2 BETA 9 2015/10/22 18:43:20 (permalink)
Nice update...

Negative small side is the latency which may always be an issue. Not a killer.

Tracking much improved and you don't have to play a low E and have it respond a half note off.

String bend way way improved over what they did version 1.x.

Just a helpful note, string bend is "off" by default and the software seems to bend, but jumps in semi tone intervals.

Engaging the bend option starts at a low number of sensitivity, but the low number being insane response with octave bends flying all over the map. Messes everything up and can no longer track the fundamental. Go in and slide the control for the higher numbers. Around 9 closely matches actual string bend in my setting. Can actually get some string vibrato response, but at this level of sensitivity, pulls in artifacts from adjacent strings. This not a problem of the program than my sloppy style. Like anything of this nature, struggle is to play the software above and beyond the instrument.

Beta 2 has progressed beautifully, a major upgrade. These guys are on the edge. Looks like they have finally opened the beta to the public.

Re: Midi Guitar 2 BETA 9 2015/10/23 09:10:01 (permalink)
Thanks for posting that John.
I was only able to install last night and didn't get a chance to test it out yet (this weekend will be fun!!).

Just briefly looking through the settings, I noticed a few odd things:

There was a yellow triangle next to the buffer size (480) which was stating it was too high.....but, that was the lowest available.....so don't know how to change that?? I tried it 44.1 and 48 with ASIO drivers on my Focusrite 2i4 all to no avail. In the previous versions, whenever I see that triangle, I did the recommended changes and it went away.
I then clicked on the 'Control Panel" (within midi guitar) and it crashed the program (on every attempt). Of course, these are just minor things I can avoid/work around until the final version is released...so no biggie, but still odd.

How do you guys get a shortcut to this app on your desktop? I did this in earlier versions, but just can't remember what I did to get it......having a brainfart here..... :(

I loaded Beta 9 to reply to the above and noticed Beta 10 is out.

To get a shortcut, right-click the exe and drag to the desktop. The use the "create shortcut" option from the context menu.

Just right click on the program file and select create shortcut, then drag it to your desktop. I dont have an answer to the buffer size but will see what I can find.   Dan

Yeah, that pitch bend is a real game changer!! As all guitarists do, we need that expressive bend/vibrato thingy to get that fuzzy emotional (synth) feeling in our playing .

Re: Midi Guitar 2 BETA 9 2015/10/26 09:25:37 (permalink)
I played a little bit with MG2 Beta 10 and was impressed with the bends/sensitivity/performance......not 100% perfect like a midi keyboard, but very close. Also, the pitch bend depends heavily on which sounds that are being used. In Alchemy, I've started marking the preset with 5 stars on sounds that respond well to my playing as well as have tones/patches that I'd really like to record.

I'm still getting a MG crash when clicking on the Control Panel as well as that buffer size being too large message, but both are a non-issue at atm.

My goal is to use this in playing Bass synths (NI's J-Bass etc..) to back up my guitar work. If I can get it to respond properly/effectively by playing clearly, we're in business!! I'm very happy with the improvements and continuous updates with MG........onward to tracking next.

Great minds think alike! I too plan to use MG2 for Bass accompaniment for my guitar. Some of the basses in Trillian work well. I also just enjoy just toying around with string or pads in the background in realtime while playing, lots of fun. The bends are indeed very dependent on the patch but work more often than not. MG2 just keeps getting better.  Dan

It should be against the law for non bassists to "play" bass parts.

I also remember reading about the Octaver pedal (included in Amplitube 3) being useful for guitarists. I'm all ready for Amplitude 4 (pre-ordered) and ready to rock!!!

You're welcome Grant. I knew A3 had a few ways of doing this and it can get even more interesting if you also have the Ampeg SVX bass amp collection. So, there's a lot of experimentation that can be done.

Of course, there's nothing like having the real deal, but this may work out well (for a quick/easy bass sound) when a real bass isn't available.
