Midi Guitar Moods V 2.0 has been mixed to Midi Guitar Moods V 2.5

Hello Songs Forum,

It sure has been a while …
Some time back I posted a tune called Midi Guitar Moods .. I have been working on it a little bit in my spare time ….
This version is sort of a here's what I got so far clip  .

Midi Guitar Moods V 2.0
https://soundcloud.com/guitarist-kenny-wilson/midi-guitar-moods-v-2-0

This track features a lot of Les Paul, Strat and some 4 string Bass…
I'm not going for chops this time out ….I'm going for melody .
During the opening intro I'm playing keys , from that point on all my synths are triggered by my guitar .
I'm using Rapture a lot on this clip plus an assortment of other  3 rd party synths ..
other than that , this is a ruff mix …my place is not set up for audio yet and I'm surrounded by construction 5 days a week ..
forgive me if I'm not even in the ballpark mix wise …..I'm just trying to get back on the forum
I do hope somebody may enjoy parts of this ,

thanks ,

Kenny

Edits same song link ...the changes I did were some musical sections were shortened , ( to make a better transition )
I felt the song was dragging once all the instruments came in so I did a tempo change for the second half of the tune ...

Sounds pretty cool Kenny!  The flutes are very Japanese sounding, especially with the koto (or some kind of harp maybe?) and the melody lines you've chosen (it works well).  The mix does seem a little heavy, considering the material, but that may just be due to the environment you're dealing with at the moment.

The whole thing is coming across like a cinematic background for an Asian drama.  If that's what you're going for, then score one for the good guys. :)

    Hi Walt ,
thanks for giving this a listen
Arrangement and instrument wise , Yes what you hear is what I was going for ….
Sure I agree , the mix has a lot of Rouge Elements.
AS it stands now my environment is pretty much a corner of my kitchen table , a laptop . All my music gear is still packed away in boxes….I sort of knew I was gonna end up dealing with a lot of disruptive elements due to the construction ….I'm waiting for that to pass so I can figure out how and where I can set my music gear up …
    thanks ,

    Hello Andy ,

I'm real happy you found something in this music enjoyable .

I happen to have an extremely quirky work flow …
I use both hardware and software , and I also use my software environment as external hardware .

Example , for midi guitar I use a software called Midi Guitar by Jam Origin (it is only my Mac …)
I used my Mac as a hardware controller triggered by my guitar just to play all my synth parts via midi into SONAR X3 . A good example of what I'm talking about is around the one minute mark of my song .
All the synths I used up until when the drums came in were sounds that came only from soft synths in SONAR … these were triggered by my guitar Via the Midi guitar plug in my Mac . I sent it over while I was playing it on my guitar in real time with a midi cable
btw non of those sounds came from the Mac just the Midi I played  it is also a two way street , sometimes I may send over a synth I don't have in any of my Windows DAW's as audio via the Mac….
    it's crazy bro …..

    thanks for the listen ,

    Kenny

    Hello Andy,

I snuck it in there on you huh ?

I used what you used on your tune that I commented favorably on ….this is why I told you that this part of my song was a tip of my hat to you …
What I did was I took a section of my song where the two guitars were playing a duet over a pad and I slowed that section down ….
There is value in creating soundscapes w that app. I also find that extracting snippets and dropping a few choice moments of them into tunes is pretty cool .
One big thing I like about that app is I can take my own tones that I rolled up on my own from scratch and send them on a journey out into space .

    nice rapping with you ,

    Kenny

Nice Japanese electro-rock groove there, Keni.

Sounds good to me.  Very nice lines throughout, but I particularly liked the simple pentatonic line for flavor.

    Hello Daryl ,

I'm trying to come up with my own thing …this type of thing is always an experiment on my end .
The synths in the beginning are a taste of what I need to get better at composing. Yes they do sound pretty good .
I could probably do a whole song based on the intro and never even bring it to where the rock stuff comes in …

thank you Daryl for giving this clip a listen

I liked that a lot, it morphs into a slowly evolving chord, very nice idea.

There are parts of this that reminded me of Broadsword & The Beast era Jethro Tull, when they were just getting into using synths alongside acoustic instruments, and some of your guitar work had a hint of Martin Barre about it.

    Hello James,

Thank you for taking the time to give this clip a listen

Yes , I think I'm gonna do more at some point with that evoking pad type of thing . I may go the route of tailor making a few more of those little soundscapes using my guitar for other tunes in the future …it seems worthwhile .

A little surprise here for you my friend .
I mimicked some of the type of things you played w SMB .The double lead guitar parts were done as I was thinking of you ….

When I was a young teen my brother bought me two records for my birth day ….
He gave me Jethro Tull Benefit and The Who Live at Leeds .
(these were the first two records that I ever owned that were mine and I wore the hell out of them from repeated listenings )
I Love Martin Barre's guitar playing , thats no secret …his tone is great , he plays with such taste and restraint ,
and his acoustic playing is top shelf ….He is somebody I respect and admire greatly .
I need to give Broadsword & The Beast a listen , thanks for the sugestion …..
    Nice rapping with you James.

    Hi Ed ,

There's a couple of things I'm real proud of in this song and there are a few things that need lot's more work …

I'm glad you found something in this music to like …

Sounding great Kenny, aside from the tasteful melodies there's some really interesting stuff supporting the tune. Me like...

     Happy Birth Day James !
Some of my synth choices I'm pretty happy with ...I used synths from SONAR , Logic and some IK stuff ..
I feel I may still need to dial them in better in places...theres a little frequency masking and a few rough rouge peaks in places ...
Overall the playing is simple and I'm happy with that end of things ....
When and if I ever put together a band I would love to be doing this type of Rock ...

thank you for the kind words and listen

    Hi Markno ,

I'm very glad you enjoyed the transitions and how the songs sections played out together

Originally the whole songs tempo was set at  what the opening section was clocking in at  ...
After the song went from the orchestral guitar pad the second half of the tune , the band section of the song  seemed rather slow and lethargic ..
I wound up keeping the first section as per the original with a few tweaks ...
The second section where the tempo picks up considerably has been a production tech I have spent some considerable time learning / working on ...I think I pulled it off ?
Those particular attributes are what I had spent the bulk of my time working on in this version of the song ...

Thank you for taking the time to listen

    all the best,

    Kenny

    Hi Lynn,

This tune may still need a little work and TLC , the thing is I happen to like the energy and vibe of this song myself .

Thank you for the super kind words you said

I like the space in between the tones, so many people forget that it's not about speed in playing and the actual sound of what your playing. Just my opinion.

WOW!!!!!!!!!! This really sounds good! No disrespect meant or nothing like that, but this could be a great start or ending credit tune for a KUNG FU type of movie. You could make some money in that way is what I am saying, and I mean that in a good way.

This really does sound good! Kudos Kenny!!! I wasn't expecting what I heard at all!!!! And I enjoyed hearing it!!!!

Now, on to the Chuck Norris/Kenny Jokes :  "Kenny does not play the guitar, the guitar does what Kenny COMMANDS it to play!!!!". LOL!!!!

Really cool and interesting piece, Kenny.  I love the way it just kinda' takes off just shy of the 1:00 mark.  You must have worked really hard on this one... it shows!
