Midi Interface with Splat or Bandlab Sonar and Win 10...?

Make sure the MOTU is not being connected to a USB 3.0 port.  That happened to me with my MOTU Micro Lite Midi interface. I built a new PC and silly me added mostly all USB 3.0 ports in the back of the darn thing.  I plugged my Moto MIcro lite in the back and got a BSOD. It happened three times and then I read the manual for the Mirco Lite and it mentioned USB 2.0.
 
Stay away from the blue port.
 
 

Thanks guys...!  I didn't even think of that.  New and improved is not always bigger and better :) .  Will try that first thing tomorrow.

Well I did check my USB ports...and the MOTU was plugged into a 2.0 port already.  I am still having issues with the interface.  I did try using different ports but it didn't change anything.  It hasn't been doing the blue screen shut down as often...but the midi does stop playing for a couple of seconds...then acts like it has to "catch up" by playing several notes very fast then starts playing normal again.  It keeps doing this quite regular.  I have tried changing the MIDI buffer settings...and trying about everything I can think of but haven't found the culprit yet.  All of this same stuff worked fine for many years...but now is giving me fits.  Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks...will check that tomorrow.  I've been pulling my hair out (not literally, don't have any to spare) trying to get this system working properly with MIDI.  It worked for decades before.

That thing served you well over the years. The MTP Timepiece came out in 1996. Just let that sink in for a second.
 
I have plenty of gear (rack gear, controllers, DAW controllers, exc) But I wouldn't try to plug anything via USB into my Windows 10 DAW that was built in the 90's. Not even a keyboard.

Along with checking in device manager for USB hubs being turned off in the ‘power management’ tab, make sure the Win10 computer isn’t being started under ‘fast boot’ and using a hibernation file. Someone may have already said this. But the ‘fast boot’ option totally screwed with USB ports and other drivers. And I need to check it with major win10 update as the updates have occasionally re-enabled each one.

I do have a MOTU MTP AV midi timepiece. It works just fine with my Win10 computer. Looking in device manager, the driver is from motu and date is 4/30/2013. Driver version says 4.0.5.7843

Thanks for concurring that these old flagship interfaces still do work with Win10.  I too am thinking that it may very well have something to do with an update....and I am convinced that it is just a setting somewhere that has gotten changed somehow.  I appreciate all of the comments and suggestions from everyone, and I am I am in no way discounting what you are saying... but I just can't understand how a computer can get "too fast" for a piece of equipment to not work anymore when it comes to MIDI.  If it was a processor hog piece of equipment that was bogging down a processor I could understand that.  But as far as updating to a new interface....MOTU still sells 8 port MIDI interfaces...and they use the same driver as far as I can see on the website...and supposedly work fine (as proof since yours is still working) :) .
 
I had thought about just buying a new Yamaha digital piano with a USB port to use as a controller as well...but I'm just the kind of guy who doesn't like something to whip me...and by golly I'm gonna put up a heck of a fight before I give up...lol.  Thanks again guys and gals.  This forum has always been such a great source of info and help.  Again...I appreciate all the info.

Whip its butt, Ted! I'm the same way, I get entertainment value out of trying to get old stuff to work, but I never assume anyone else is like that. I'll spend days trying to get an old M-Audio interface to work when I can get a brand new Tascam that will drop right in for $50.
 
I wasn't thinking that the MIDI part of it was too slow, rather the part where the USB talks to the interface. Anyway you now have concurrence that it will work under Windows 10 on a modern system! Maybe there's a setting in your system BIOS for your USB ports that will help?
 
Also, y'might get on over to the CbB forum, as this one is crumbling around us as we speak....

I have had a pcie usb2 card fail. Started to act squirmy, then nothing worked that was plugged into it. New card and it all works again. Easy on a desktop. A bit more difficult on a laptop. Good luck!
