Midi Shift Modifier Key Mapping on Allen Heath Zed R16

I am a new user of both Sonar 8.5 and the Allen & Heath ZED R16. I have successfully configured the ZED as a generic control surface in Sonar with the exception of using the MIDI shift key on the ZED to shift between primary and secondary functions of the rotary switches and buttons on the ZED. I am looking for help in how to configure the ZED shift key as the shift modifier.

I have tried to find a way to do this with the generic control surface configuration screen, but can't figre it out. Is it possible? I have also tried defining an ACT MIDI controller and mapping the shift key with the "Shift Learn" button. This does not work either. Pressing and hold down the "Shift" button while pressing another button does not execute the secondary function I have defined on the "Shift Bx" button on the ACT "Options" tab.

Has anyone been able to get this to work?

Thanks for your help as none of the searches I have done on this forum, the Allen Heath knowledge board, Gearsultz or Google have yeilded anything that solves this problem.
