Midi Take Lane view question

I notice if I have 3 take lanes of Midi data and double click one it goes to PRV but shows all 3 takes. If I mute button the lanes it still shows them. I muted the clips themselves and selected "hide muted clips" or something like that and that worked to just show the one I want but I was wondering: 1. Shouldn't that be considered "muted" by muting the lane? To go through all the separate clips in a take and mute them is slow. 2. Is there another way to open a midi "take lane" and only show that lane's midi in PRV?

No, it works that way because you're working in a single track. If the lanes were in separate tracks, then you could display just one in the PRV without muting clips.

I must say I don't like the take lanes in Sonar. I think lanes, or layers, should be there to record alternative takes for comparison, and PRV should display just one of the lanes.

I have this problem myself recently.

What I have found is that I had to change my mind set whilst comping using lanes.  My first instinct was to try and edit my midi whilst it was still in lanes, however when you have 20 plus takes of multitrack drum midi the PRV very quickly becomes unusable.

I found the easiest way to use the Lanes and PRV in this instance was to use the exclusive Mute tool <cntrl+mute> and comp my piece together WITHOUT attempting to change any of the midi notes in the process. Once I had my midi sounding how I wanted it, albeit out of time in places, I then bounced the midi to clips THEN play with the midi in the PRV (quantize etc) as you will only have one midi track now. Very simple quick and easy, in my case YMMV of course.

Using the Exclusive mute tool is the magic here, it is brilliant. Highlight the part you want whilst muting all others in the same time frame in one swipe of the mouse, easy.

As a side note, once you have bounced the midi to clips you will be left with lots of empty lanes remember to delete these after. I think this should happen automatically after bouncing and I will be submitting this as a bug/feature request.
