Midi Track Envelope Channel Bug?

I'm using X1d, and I've encountered bizarre midi track envelope channel assignment behavior.  Shocking, but true.

Anyone have any idea why a track automation envelope on a midi track has a channel assignment, even though the midi track itself already has a midi channel?
Oddly, when you assign the envelope to any midi channel other than channel 1, the envelope appears  to have no effect, regardless of which channel the track is assigned to.  This seems weird to me.  For example:

Lets say you have Midi Track 1, assigned to Synth 1, Channel 3.  You then create a track envelope in the same track to control midi CC 11.  You intuitively assign the envelope to Midi Channel 3 (because why on earth would you want an envelope in Track 1, which is outputting note data to Midi Channel 3,  to send CC 11 data elsewhere?).  Now it gets sad.  The envelope doesn't do anything.  Cut to later (sadly much later).  Now, you change the Track 1 envelope to CC 11, Midi Channel 1.  Inexplicably, it works great; it sends Midi CC 11 data to Synth 1, Channel 3, like the track was intended to do.  What the F@$*K?!

So, in disbelief, I did this on multiple tracks simultaneously, to verify that it was indeed happening.  It is.  Apparently, a midi track envelope must be assigned to channel 1, irrespective of what channel the track is set to.

So why is there a channel selection on the envelope, anyway?  It appears to be a booby trap for noobs that serves no functional purpose.

Setting an envelope to any channel other that channel 1 doesn't seem to do anything good; I verified that if you set it to say, channel 3, the synth doesn't see any data on channel 3.    Nope.  The only time it seems to work is when the envelope is set to channel 1.

Anyone have any idea what is going on here?

Joe
