Midi file import tempo

Hi. Can anyone help me out here? I just recorded a midi file at 146 BPM in Pianoteq standalone and saved it as a midi file. I open up X1 and import the clip. The default tempo for the project is 120. when I adjust it to 146 it obviously plays at 146 BPM. I read a previous thread that mentioned you should open the midi file not import it and that would recognize the tempo. that did not work. A third time I opened up X1, set the project tempo for 146 and then opened the midi file...still played too fast. Are there any other ideas? I mean I could re-play the clip but I might lose the feeling that the clip had. I never remember having these problems with midi files back in the 80's.
