Midi input from Roland TD-12 problem

Hi Everyone,  Here's what I want to do
The drummer in the band uses a Roland TD-12, Where he has recorded some of the songs we play into the Roland Module ( Midi data ) and what I thought I'd be able to do is to attach the midi out of the Roland TD-12 module into the PC and once I have captured the data I can use it to play the SD3 Synth

Here's what happens.
So I load up a SD3 folder and select a Drum kit ( Led Zep usually ) and test to see if I can hear the drums using the mouse within the synth or using my midi keyboard ( OK so far )
I unplug the midi keyboard and plug in the Roland Drum Module and press play and it works ... I can hear the Synth being played by the Module ( All good so far )
The problem arises when I either press Stop on the Roland Module then play again The synth does not play. although I can see the meters responding to the roland in the midi source track ... none of the other drum tracks are responding.
The same thing happens if I try and set everything up to Record. - I can only see the midi source track meters working.

So I'm assuming there must be some kind of midi 'reset' or change occuring that I'm unaware of!

Any help is appreciated.

My crude workaround is to unplug the midi lead from the Drum Module ... start recording in Sonar , then start the drum module playing and quickly insert the midi lead to avoid the initial 'midi reset/change'

Rgds
Al.

Does anyone know where I can learn about editing the midi code, so I can delete some initial change codes at the start of the midi file that are resetting the synth to silent.

    Thanks

If you can see the meters responding when data is coming from the drum module then it appears you are on the right track. To be sure, make sure the MIDI out/thru jack is connected to Sonar's MIDI In jack. And if you have another midi cable plug that into your Sonar's MIDI out jack and into the TD12's MIDI In jack. (It might help others in the forum if you tells more about what equipment you have.) This will allow Sonar to send controller data to the TD12 and for it to respond.

Load up the SD3 kit as synth. It will create a midi track and an audio track.  You need to make sure what midi channel you are transmitting from on the TD12 and make sure the SD# midi track in Sonar is "listening" on the same channel. If you can set it the TD12 to OMNI and set Sonar to OMNI that may make things easier for starters.

Set the midi track to record. Press record on sonar and hit play on the module. Your midi data will "play" into the track. Then you can go into "Event View" in Sonar and you can see the data. I find it useful for looking at controller data. You can also use the "Piano Roll View" to look at the data as well. You can pick the view that best suits your needs.

I hope that helps you out a bit. Also, there are a plethora of resources on working with MIDI. If you have the manual (it may be online) for the TD12, that will also be of use. I don't know that piece of equipment specifically, but MIDI tends to work very similarly across many systems.

Hey, Thanks for the response Vice, I am all clear and fine on getting the data into the PC - all that bit works ok, it's this bit I need help on...

"Then you can go into "Event View" in Sonar and you can see the data. I find it useful for looking at controller data."

I can see that there is some kind of 'reset' command (it was #12 or #20) at the very begining of the midi stream that I assume would be used to reset the hardware that the TD-12 usually uses the midi data to drive, What I want to know is ' how do I edit that data and delete the commands? within event viewer?
    Thanks
