I posted about this previously and cannot find the link.. but  I am having issues with X1 and a delay from my midi controller. I am using a pre sonus firebox and have updated the drivers.  This problem was not occuring previously not sure what to do..Thanks for any ideas

Hi I have been stung by something this before. Not saying this is your case but if you are using any of the plugins that require read ahead buffers like perfect space, lp64 eq or compressor it will introduce latency through your whole system. I originally thought it was midi because that was what I was doing at the time.

If you have any CPU intensive effects such as a convolution reverb (perfect space or reverberate) or look ahead effects such as the PC concrete Limiter, temporarily disable them.

LP-64 EQ & multiband are other common culprits.

I usually track with Pantheon or Breverb, and replace with convolution, if wanted, after tracking.  Leave the others off until mixing stage, or disable if you have to record another part.

Thanks guys that did it LP-64 running, once disabled no more latency..yes! However when I completed the drum track I tried to move it to track one and now I have no sound on playback from my Instrument track..frustated will keep at it!

or you can alawys disable PDL in the control bar, isnt that whats for?
to alieviate the compensation of look ahead plug ins?

Yes, you can, but I find that disabling PDC completely can put other tracks out of sync, which can be off putting when tracking, e.g. if a drum module or synth starts playing out of time.

I find it more effective to disable the specific effect.

Sometimes the PDC button works, other times the project sounds all over the place on playback.

Also, it's not just look ahead plug ins, like the concrete limiter, for example.  CPU intensive processes, like a convolution reverb, will cause this delay.

In Sonar the biggest culprits are Perfect Space, the PC Concrete Limiter, LP-64 EQ and LP-64 Multiband Compressor.

As I mentioned above, just track without them, and disable them individually if you need to overdub.

@mickb66 - Glad you got the latency sorted.  I'm not sure what you mean - "the drum track I tried to move it to track one and now I have no sound on playback from my Instrument track.."

Did you use Simple Instrument track for the drums?  How did you move the track?

PM me if you need any more help.

I have noticed this advice a lot lately. I agree PDC should not be disabled unless by having it on that it is causing sync problems otherwise leave it on. It is not for low latency tracking.

The reason it is there is some odd plugins give incorrect delay information to Sonar.

Once I finished a simple instrument track (drums with AD), I tried to drag the track in the track window from track 4 to track 1 and I lost sound on the track. Even with a new track created and different parts played the tracks are greyed out and have no sound, however I can still play the synth through it, just no playback sound. ??? None of the audio tracks were affected.

If you can, would it be possible to post a screenshot?  It would make finding the answer a lot quicker.

In the meantime, just check track is not muted or archived, and that the track's output is sent to a functioning bus (either master or another bus that is eventually routed to master).
