Midi no sound. confused about setup.
I downloaded the latin.cwp. It looks interesting I loaded this into X1 but get no sound The file is just midi & I'm a noob on midi but I know I have to assign a "Player" to the tracks and it told me that, as it loaded, it would pick up my midi device. So I plugged in my Alesis QX25 keyboard (The only midi hardware I have other than a drum machine) and the preferences found it when I ran sonar. I enabled the Alesis in preferences, ran the file and the track meters show but no sound. I'm guessing it's because the Alesis is just an input device and not a player? What would you expect to do from here? Setting the track Input to the Alesis omni and output to my Sound card doesn't work. Is this exclusively an X2 file somehow or do I use a plugin like TTS-1? I opened TTS-1 but couldn't get the tracks to communicate with it.

Is the Alesis keyboard connected to the MIDI out of your soundcard? I don't know what this "Player" means but the Latin file should definitely work in X1 as well.

Search for latin in your X1 help. It should take you to a page called Manually entering MIDI notes. That will guide you through using the latin.cwp.

Remember there are two forms of "MIDI device" - input and output So I plugged in my Alesis QX25 keyboard (The only midi hardware I have other than a drum machine) and the preferences found it when I ran sonar. I enabled the Alesis in preferences, ran the file and the track meters show but no sound. I'm guessing it's because the Alesis is just an input device and not a player?

If you don't have a hardware synth, insert one into SOnar such as TTS-1. Make sure that you choose the "First audio out" option when inserting it so that it has an output track that you can hear. Then assign the MIDI track's output to TTS-1. The routing is as follows MIDI track output---->Synth(TTS-1)------>Audio Track------>Master buss. Have a look at this video for more detail on MIDI routing. HTH

Oh, I thought Alesis QX25 was a hardware synth, but it's just a keyboard controller......now I understand why he didn't get any sound.

Ok, thanks Karl. The video shows an error occurred. But by setting all the existing tracks outputs to the TTS-1 I got a few of the tracks to work! Thanks. I assume the ones that do not work are not set to the right channel on the TTS-1? (horns, kick, toms, bell, rimshot, bass)

The events on the drum track are recorded as Channel 1, but the The "forced" output channel in the track header is 10 which is correct for General MIDI synths like the TTS-1. Double-check that the output of the MIDI track is assigned to the TTS-1, the Channel is still 10, and MIDI track volume is up. Also, you can click the audition button at the bottom of the Drum channel strip in the TTS-1 to hear a demo sequence, and verify the TTS-1 is set up correctly.

Ok thanks. that did it. I had used control edit for all the tracks to set them to TTS-1 out but I guess I didn't do it right so only some were changed to TTS-1
