Midi snap to grid
How do you get the midi notes to snap to grid. I can not find snap to grid for the midi window view. I can only see the grid for the global tracks, audio & midi, which does not control the snap on the midi window. (the view where you control the midi notes). errg, this was much more intuitive in ver 8.5 as were many things. (Notice I use the word intuitive not "what I'm use to")

Thanks, but when I click on the grid to turn snap on,,, the snap works on the tracks, but when I double click on a midi track to open the edit view of that midi track, there is no snap working. so its hard to line up notes. Is there another way to turn on the snap function in that midi edit view?

Trying going to Snap and Nudge settings in Preferences, and setting Magnetic Strength to OFF. Most likely is is working, but Magnetic Strength is defaulted to Medium, making it hard to see the snap at some zoom levels.

Also, make sure that you have selected "snap to" rather than "snap by." This setting can be found in the snap module in the control bar. Regards Glenn

What's your snap resolution, and what are you trying to snap to where? Do you have any other snap options enabled like Landmarks or Absolute Time?

Snap behavior seems random to me. I am going to take notes when it does and does not work and report back.

The good news is, the vast majority of users seem to find snap working pretty predictably since the widely reported issues were fixed in X1b, so it's probably just a matter of understanding and setting it properly. The primary cause of ongoing reports of problems with Snap is misunderstanding of the how Magnetic Strength works. I think this came up because it was defaulted to Medium in X1, whereas most users will want to have it set to OFF so that objects are forced to snap firmly to the nearest gridline (or other landmark if enabled). Enabling Magnetic Strength allows some flexibility - only snapping when you get within a certain range of the grid - that may be interpreted as Snap not working at some zoom levels.

What about in the staff view? My trial has expired so I can't keep trying, but I tried every single snap setting, and I couldn't get notes to snap even remotely right on the staff view. Has anybody got this working properly, like it was working in previous versions where it would just instantly snap the notes right into place? I watched some tutorial to see if I had got it wrong, but even in the tutorial, the guy was saying you have to watch the grid values as you input the note to make sure it's on 00. That's probably fine if you're entering a bunch of 1/4 notes, but anything more is going to take way too long.
