Midi timing

Is anyone aware of any Preference setting that may affect the smoothness or coarseness of rapid midi notes as in a two stroke roll on a drum?  I am getting a different playback (in a groove preview) in Toontrack Solo and SONAR 8.5 than I am getting in SONAR X1.  TTsolo sounds the smoothest when a two stroke roll is played.  The same roll played in X1 sounds more coarse or grainy.  IOW, I can hear more individual strokes where the same thing played in TTSolo sounds more "crushed."

I can't imagine what would make 8.5 and X1 sound different from each other with the same project. I think I'd have to see and hear the rendered audio to get an idea what's going on.

It's hard to do a head to head comparison because it's occurring during playback of a preview.  I suppose I could loop back the output into a channel but I will have to think of a way to record Toontrack Solo.  I suppose I could hook up the DAT recorder once again.

I was hoping that somebody would have a quick answer concerning midi buffers or such even though I don't see how that would have anything to do with it.

Superior has a 16-bit preview mode, doesn't it? Could it be your X1 project has that enabled, and Toontrack Solo and 8.5 are using the full 24-bit samples? I'm not sure you'd hear that so distinctly, but it's possible.

    Hi Dave,

Not sure if I completely understand but did you say that you are previewing a groove clip?

If so, does it still sound the same, in X1, if you drop the clip into a track vs. preview?

    regards,
    Rick
