Midi to USB adaptor

I have a Yamaha keyboard with midi . The computer I have has only USB inputs. I checked with Yamaha about the price of ordering an adaptor and they told me it would run about $45 plus shipping. Does that seem kinda high? Is it me? That and Music Creator at $35 =$80. I just can't bring myself to spend the money on me when it's so close to Christmas.

I used to tell myself that too. That was before the Les Paul, Line6 Ux2, Line6KB37, AKG414 mic, Shure sm57, Yari Alvarez acoustic, Yamaha MM6 keyboard, batcrap crazy amount of plugins, Smart Loop multitrack drum loops, stands, books, custom built Super Strat loaded with Seymour Duncans, Yamaha BB400 Bill Wyman Bass, Guitar Tracks, Sonar Home Studio XL6 & 7, Sonar Studio 8 etc,etc......... I'm sorry, you were saying something about $45.00?

Sorry man, Look at it this way, and you may want to try this logic on the missus. To record music 20 years ago, with the options we have today would have cost literally thousands and thousands of dollars. Imagine what it would cost to set up a 48 track digital recording studio! Now we can do it for less than $500.00 if we shop smartly.

Here's a couple of low $$$$ options for you...

You can connect a midi converter to a soundcards joystick port. (If your current soundcard doesn't have one you could scrounge one up from an old computer?)

A buddy of mine used to make the connectors out of the component pieces - so it can't be hard to solder one up yourself - I'm sure there would be wiring instructions on the net somewhere.

Or do an ebay search for midi connector - heaps there for about $13

    Hi Bill,
I've heard that there can be problems with Yamaha midiin that it only works properly if Yamaha connectors are used.

    Its worth checking out...

Dont know if you're interested Bill but I purchased a small Creative (midi) Prodikeys keyboard which also doubles as a computer keyboard.

Two and a half octaves and works fine...

Only £49.00 whatever that relates to in dollars????

    Check out the website www.prodikeys.com
