Midnight
https://soundcloud.com/hummingbirdcinema/midnight A cover of Coldplay's 'Midnight' from Ghost Stories. I am still polishing it so any feedback on mix advice etc would be appreciated. P.S. - I am also going to license it once fully finished, for anyone concerned. P.P.S. -- I am still lamenting the Sonar news. Daunting prospect of learning new software!

I like this. The only thing I think it needs is a bit more energy in the vocal. The vocal is just a little to laid back for the rest of the song's energy. Overall, your instrumentation is really good, and everything sits very well in the mix. Regards, Dan

Interesting choice for a cover song. I found the original on youtube and watched it after listening to your cover. I think the original compensates for the low vocal energy (that Dan mentioned above) by doing a subtle note-for-note doubling of the vocal on a bass synth, as well as a second vocal with a heavy vocoder on it. Overall, your version sounds more ambient/cinematic, and very good. :) Your vocal could come out more in some places, but maybe adding some of the doubling I mentioned would be enough? If you even want to do that.

Thanks Dan and Walt. I have spent a lot of time trying to get the vocals right but for a variety of reasons I cannot get it to sound right. I think I will file this one away and move on to something else. Thanks for listening!

I don't really know much about this kind of music, but it sounded pretty good to me. Cool that you know how to do all this synthesizer stuff, cause i sure don't know much!

I didn't listen to the original and just heard yours in the context of a song, cover that it may be. You have done a top job with the mixing and it sounds really nice listening to this on my main studio PC. Others have mentioned the vocals so I won't go there. The synth parts are really well done and fill the stereo field. Nice job.
