Might buy MC3

I'm thinking about buying Cakewalk Music Creator 3. There is no demo so I tried the Sonar 5 demo instead. I actually like it and it runs smoothly on my system. Since my wallet is very limited I can't afford Sonar so I need to know what the main differences are between the softwares. I didn't find any comparison chart at Cakewalk (maybe I'm blind) so I need some help here.

The various Sonar products are the top end of the Cakewalk product line, and so have more features, and better drivers than less expensive programs. Exactly what do you want to do, musicwise? Are you a professional, or a hobbyist? Are you going to be recording mostly audio, or MIDI? How fast is your computer, and what sound card does it have?
Try somewhere like www.musictechmag.co.uk and see if they have comparisons. Greg

Music Creator 2003, MC Pro 24, SONAR Home Studio 6 XL, SONAR  X3e, CbB, Focusrite Saffire, not enough space.

I´m a hobbyist. I want to use some audio tracks but mostly not live recorded. The midi will be for free vst or dx instruments and no hardware synths. My soundcard is an internal Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS and my CPU is 3,6 GHZ with 1 Gb RAM.

Well, forget this post. I bought MC3 online last night. I haven´t seen anything yet that I miss except for the reverb that really sounds awful - almost like my old Midiverb III.

Download the classic collection here and you will have everything you need for a hobbist, as far as effects go.

I already downloaded them They sound great but if I loop the timeline or a part of the timeline the effects gets weird as soon as the loop starts over. That is for all VST effects and instruments btw.

MC is a native DXi and DX effect environment VSTs only work because of a wrapper, i think Cakewalk still has issues with the VSti wrapper. I did download the beta wrapper but have not really had time to test it out fully it seems to be working in general. But i have not tried looping with it.

Yepp, the dx plugins works good. The vst works too as long as I don´t loop the timeline but I have a workaround for that. If I want to concentrate on a certain section of the song I simply copy that section and paste them in a long row. Then I don´t need to use the loop function to try out vst effects or instruments in realtime.
