Migrating Legacy Effects to Sonar Platinum

I purchased Sonar Platinum a few months ago and this week was trying to load some much older projects I made in Sonar 2.  When I try to load them, I get errors saying it can't find effects like Cakewalk FxReverb, Cakewalk FxChorus, and Cakewalk FxFlange.  I tried the advanced Sonar Platinum install but don't see any options to install legacy effects.  I do have the original Sonar 2 program file directory which has the .dll and .ax files in it.  The original Sonar 2 was 32 bit and I am now running a 64 bit system just to make this process more difficult.  Is there a way to incorporate these legacy effects into the new Sonar Platinum?

I'm a little surprised that the "standard" cakewalk effects weren't included in the new platinum.  Assuming there isn't a way to get these into the Sonar Platinum install, what should I do to prevent this in the future?  In the past, I used to save .bun files thinking this would be a good way to archive but if the effects aren't moved from version to version, this doesn't seem like a good method.  Ideas?

Most of the old 32bit DX plug-ins were not ported to 64bit. To open projects which use 32bit DX plug-ins you will need to install a 32bit version of SONAR. I am not sure they are even included in the current 32bit version of SONAR, so you may need to also run an advanced install of an older version of SONAR to get the plug-ins back.

They are as long as you install the 32 bit version. Page 1591 of the manual lists them.

Do you see any problems if I installed the 32 bit Sonar on the same system as my 64 bit Sonar...or would it just be safer to find an old computer with Win XP and install Sonar 2 on it?

Many users install both without issues. They are designed to be installed side by side.

Install the 32bit version on the same PC. The program and plug-ins install different directories than the 64bit version. If you use the Command Center, click the gear in the upper right to open the settings screen and select the "verbose install" option. This will give you the ability to select the 32bit version during install.

Another option is to use the current equivalent effects. For example a chorus isn't so unique an effect that another chorus can't provide a similar or even better effect, and the newer reverbs like Breverb and REmatrix solo are light years ahead of the 32-bit reverbs.

It may be a bit of a hassle to re-tweak the settings, but it might end up more like a sonic upgrade than anything else

I used the command center verbose install and installed the 32 bit version on my system.  Unfortunately, when I load my older projects, I still get the message about the plugins (Cakewalk FxReverb, Cakewalk FxChorus, and Cakewalk FxFlange) not being available.  Anything special I need to do during the install to get the old effects to load?  I used the advanced install option and didn't see anything about legacy effects.

Tomorrow, I will try installing Sonar 2 on an old Win XP machine to load these projects.  If you freeze the audio tracks, then export them as a BUN file, I assume that would open up fine in Sonar Platinum?

It could be you will need to install those plugins from your Sonar 2 disk. You don't need to install anything else from it. I could not find them in Sonar 2015 install. However I did not install the 32 bit version. I was hoping it would give me an option to do so it didn't as far as I went with the install.

I may be wrong about them being included with Sonar 2015.

Ask Cakewalk to add the FX series installers to your account. They were all released as free downloads years ago. I still have a couple of the FX series installers in my account.
