Migrating Old Projects into X2 (32bit 8.5 to 64bit X2) ??

Hi guys,
Need a bit of help if possible...  My brother just built a new computer with Win7 64bit OS and has installed X2 64bit as well.  He took the RME sound card out of the old computer, which has 32bit Vista OS I believe, and installed it in the new computer.  All drivers have been updated to 64bit as required.  His old Sonar was version 8.5.

Upon trying to load an old project file into new X2, X2 apparently just completely locks up the new machine.  I know that there are certain plugins and soft synths that have to be 64bit to run in the new OS, and they have an appropriate folder(s) to reside in.  The 32bit material resides in x86 folder(s).

This may be a dumb question, but does a .CWP project file actually store driver settings and I/O settings (such as Faderport and soundcard settings) along with the project audio, plugin, and MIDI data?  Is his 64bit X2 looking for the 32bit Faderport driver when it tries to load the old project file?  And so is it this conflict (or one like it) that is locking up the machine?

I was under the impression that settings/drivers like the Faderport reside outside the project GLOBALLY, and not on a "PROJECT" basis, and as such, would not affect an old project since the appropriate 64bit drivers/soundcard settings are correctly installed in their appropriate folders in X2.

Any ideas on why this machine is locking up when loading an old project?

(New machine runs with 64GB RAM...)

Many thanks,

Tony

Cheers!

Tony

    No
does a .CWP project file actually store the project audio, plugin, and MIDI data?

    Yes
Is his 64bit X2 looking for the 32bit Faderport driver when it tries to load the old project file?

It will only look for connected devices. It's up to you/him to specify the driver

Incidentally, I just loaded up a stack of old projects, most of which were started in 8.5 and they all run perfectly
