Missing MIDI Ports?
I just reformatted my PC and re-installed Sonar 8.3.1 this past week. Everything is working fine but when I open a project or start a new one I get the Missing MIDI Port pop-up. And here are the settings under my MIDI Devices. Any ideas on what I'm missing or forgetting to do? Mike

Should you have your Roland checked in Output dialog as an output to enable it?

1) Try checking the Midisport's other ports as well. 2) If you're using XP, turn off power management to the root hubs. ew

Thanks EW. I have tried the above suggestions and everything works fine. Recording and playback MIDI works through both A & B ports with no problem. But the window still pops up every time I open or start a project. Hmmm! Mike

I think the "friendly name" of one of your midisports is wrong - It thinks it's a Roland & that's not the device the project is looking for - hence the warning. It's only the friendly name that's wrong which may be why the project actually plays out of the correct port. Jim

Yeah I thought that too but I was getting the pop up before I changed the name to "Roland SPD-20 Out". I changed the name to see if it would make a difference. Mike

Friendly names are only what you want to call the port and has no effect on whether the the port is recognized. In the nice pictures all the ports are not checked. Could this be the cause for the missing port dialog? Also if all is well concerning that you can use the port there is a check for not showing that dialog if you don't want it. I can't say I fully follow the issue as described. Color me confused. None the less you have many of your available ports unchecked.

This happened to me when I changed my MIDI interface and the Normal template or any project assigned the old MIDI device as an output for a MIDI channel. I just assigned the MIDI channels to the new device, and no more Missing evice error Hope this help!

Strangely enough I've been having the exact same issue recently in S8.3.1 & 8.5.1, on the same port on the same device (port B, Midisport 2x2). A reboot of the system has cleared the issue every time so far, I've no idea what caused it to start happening, but it's only been over the last 6-8 weeks. Win XP SP3 here edit to add: Midisport driver v4.3.00 & the midisport shows as connected in Device Manager when the probelm occurs (both A+B ports are turned on in my DAW)

just a thought, the midi sport / axiom are both m-audio products.. maybe an issue with the driver and it being multi-client.. as I'd take a punt that the code for the axioms midi was based on the earlier midisport code

Recording and playback MIDI works through both A & B ports with no problem. But the window still pops up every time I open or start a project. I thought this was maybe related to the new dynamic port detection feature when I first saw it reported in 8.5, but if you are seieng it in 8.3.1, it must be something else. Have you tried changing the track assignment(s) to different ports, and then reassigning to the problem port (maybe with a save in between)?
