Missing Master

I created some tracks in Sonar 2.2 a while ago.  I opened them in X1/V-Studio and did considerable work on them.  There is no Master Bus, since this feature was introduced in Sonar 3.  The tracks play, but the master fader has no effect.

I can add a new stereo bus in Sonar X1, call it Master, and route all the tracks to it.  How, though, would I tell the V-Studio that it is the Master and to control it with the master fader—and how would I keep the tracks from going directly to the mains (which they are now) instead of through the master?

Thanks.

Hi Konradh, if you've routed the tracks to the master and the master is routed to your mains, you should be good to adjust the master onscreen and all works as expected. If your master fader doesn't select onscreen and follow the physical fader moves, then there is a box to be ticked or similar. Haven't had this issue since using a Mackie MCU but remember a box to tick in the settings for it get the master fader to function like this. If it gives you grief still, let us know and I'd be happy to duplicate similar and find the answer. Shouldn't be too hard to find the right bit/section but I don't have the DAW powered up right now otherwise would take a look. Cheers.

Thanks, Mully.  I don't believe the physical fader controls or follows the new Master bus fader on screen, but i will play around a bit.

I would think the faders would be assignable but when i open the V-700 box in Sonar, I don't see a fader assignment option: just button assignments.

This was actually easy to fix once I knew how: 1. The Master fader controls whichever bus is first (on top in track view). 2. If you want the master fader to control a different bus than the first one, just drag the orange WAI strip to the bus you want the master fader to control. 3. Of course, you can go to each audio track and select it to be output to master instead of Mains. So, in the case of project that does not have a master bus, you can rename the first bus to Master, or create a Master and drag the WAI strip to it. Hope this helps someone else.

Great work... sorry... I got totally tied up recording and only had a very quick look for master fader duty selection which wasn't anywhere to be found. Sounds like you have found the answer... and it's an improvement! Cheers.
