Missing Plug ins

I hate having two threads going at once... when I start my current project it takes forever and I get a message I have to clear telling me several plug-ins are associated with the project that missing... I don't know how they got assigned in the project, but I don't know how to delete the assignment or the reset it... I don't think I actually have the plug-ins and don't see them in the plug in manager. The are Rapture, Dimensions and PSYN II... any thoughts on how to clear these?

First, update to X3e, then reset AND re-scan the plug-ins...see what happens. X3a is not as developed as X3e and I highly recommended the update, it's free.

Actually, not sure how to do that... if I try to update from the program it says I'm up to date, can't find x3e on the website, and this Command Center thing tells me I have no products at all. I do show an X3b, do I have to do them one at a time?

Hmmm, and even that update tells it can't find the correct version on my system to upgrade.

    Hi - I am a bit confused.

Your signature indicates you are running X3a, but you seem to be using Command Center, which comes with the new release that just came out, to look for Rapture and Dim Pro, etc.

Can you please clarify what you have installed?

IF you are running X3a, you can go to the Cakewalk support by product page, and use the drop-down boxes to pick Sonar X3, and it will open a list of available updates for whatever flavor it it you have.

There will also be installation instructions for getting everything installed.  If you follow the instructions, you will have an installer for Sonar, and Rapture, and another for Dimension Pro, as well as its expansion packs.

I am also not sure why anything you have is looking for those, unless you have them specified within projects.  I have never had them 'not' installed, so if there is some weird behavior going on, I would never have experienced it.

I'm confused too, hence my original post. Okay, now I"m running X3e and I rescanned, but the message still comes up before I can load the file. The plug-ins listed in my plug-in manager are:
    DirectX Audio Effects
    VST Audio Effects
    VST3 Audio Effects
    DirectX Instruments
    VST Instruments
    VST3 Instruments
    MIDI Effects
    DirectX Media Objects
    Control Surfaces
Each of those has sublistings when I select them, but none are the ones holding up my file, which again are Rapture, Dimensions and PSYN II. They do show up in the option list when I try to load a new SoftSynth track, but if I choose one I get the same message. And I don't see anything listed as available updates on my product page.

psyn 2 should have installed with x3 which is weird.  dimension and rapture are seperate packages in your cakewalk store account.
I think you may have created a project from a different template which may have had tracks for those synths.
anyway, for this project you can show the media browser then click on the synths tab.  it will probably show a rack for dimension rapture and psyn.  click each one and then click the red x button.  click the square which will ask delete all associated tracks.  do that for each synth and then re-save the project.  that will get you over hump #1.

First, thanks Swamptooth, that helped, got rid of those unassigned synths. But no, the keyboard isn't happening yet... we've changed its behavior some, the project I'm working on has turned into an experimental workspace just trying to make things work. Sometimes I get the sound I want when I create a SoftSynth track, then I create another track and get nothing. Christ, give me portastudio and a piece of tape please. Now I'm having the added problem of Sonar crashing... think I'm going to walk away from this for a while, thanks for the help.

You can't walk away when you're losing.

Where are your dll's located?  The 32bit ones should be in ProgramFilesx86/Cakewalk/vstplugins and the 64bit ones in ProgramFiles/Cakewalk/vstplugins.   I don't know what might happen if the 32 get in the 64 hole, or vice versa, but would guess that a 32 would work OK in the 64 bit house, but not the other way around.  I would guess this could only happen if you had manually installed dlls.  Did you?

Are they all there?  Or are they hiding in a Steinberg directory?

When you re-scan your plugins, is the Options set to scan the parent-directories where all these dlls live?  A parent-directory includes all the subdirectories beneath it.

Do you have duplicate dlls lurking about?  Worse is having dlls with same name but are different sizes, which indicates different versions.  Right-click, Properties, Versions to see, and cut and paste the suspect dlls to a TEMP directory.  Then rescan.

    OK, now you can quit.

I had almost the exact same problem recently. After weeks of hair-pulling, the only solution was a complete uninstall and clean install of X3.  Everything worked perfectly afterwards.

So, I have some time now, guess I'll try to make this work again... current situ... I've increased my ram from 4gb to 12gb, not specifically for this issue but overall performance... as far as Sonar's concerned, it just freezes faster. What's now happening is, I can open my audio files, they work fine... the project that I've started that is completely midi tracked will open and play, there is a SoftSynth track (a Clav part) that I created and I seem to be able to play it, though I am getting some latency with it... but if I try to add another SoftSynth track, any track, the program crashes completely, every time. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Sonar twice and upgraded from X3a to X3e, any suggestions welcome.

Ok, did all that, followed the instructions, deleted the registry keys, reinstalled from fresh downloads, including the X3e update... but there was no change in the performance of the program. If I'm in my midi project and try to add SoftSynth track, the program crashes.
