Missing Seth & Brandon (Robin too!)
Not to diminish the participation of the current Cakewalk Team, but I miss those guys. They always had good things to say and lots of helpful tips as well as being responsive to so many of our issues... It seems that level on involvement is waning right now and I'm hoping it's a matter of getting new people into the groove....? <sigh>... ...and longing for an update of info if not yet program. Keni

From the beginning of Cakewalk there was always a strong user community and company connection which even preceded Brandon & Seth and emerged with the blossoming of the internet. Originally it was with the author of the product, Greg Hendershott then later came Ron Kuper who connected with the community for years. After Ron left Brandon and Seth picked up the gauntlet. Roland on the other hand is pretty agnostic about their customer base and if you look at their other forums, they don't participate. I have to admit, it was part of the draw of the product for me and will miss them as well.

Yeah... I remember talking with Greg and the many hours with Ron... I miss them too, but at least the family survived... It now feels as tho the family is gone... Eaten by the parent... I hope some of the people at Cakewalk remember this and work it out with Poppa Roland so that they don't lose this as I believe it has always been a big reason for the growth and survival of the product beyond the software itself... The forum is much the same. It's as if we feel part of the family and are always willing to help... Keni

Brandon didn't leave. He got a promotion as the new Roland minister of Strategy. He's probably in Seoul teaching young starlets how to press "play" on their sing a long machines. :-)

I'm sure that the boys would appreciate your sentiments. Something has definitely gone from this company. Thankfully I'm finding many Sonarites over at the PreSonus forums. I find that there's some good stuff happening over there and I only had to buy another DAW to participate. I truly hope Cakewalk picks up the ball and starts to communicate with users again because they are slowly starting to drift away.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm sure I remember that Brandon was listed as a Vice-President of Cakewalk before the Roland buy-out (maybe Seth too?). So I'm assuming he went from having quite an influential (decision making?) position on the board to being just another guy on the payroll. Must take some adjusting to, especially if the roles were vastly different. But obviously, I'm only guessing here. However, what I do undoubtedly miss is their presence on the forums. But even that involvement changed to a certain extent when Roland became in charge. Up until that point, you felt that anything Seth or Brandon said in here actually meant something and carried some weight - like getting to talk to the organ grinder. Although undoubtedly they continued to be very helpful, and a welcome 'value-added' presence in here, I always got the feeling they both had to be just a little guarded about what they said. A subtle difference I accept, but noticeable none the less. It does make you wonder what Cakewalk would have been like now, had they turned down Roland's advances and maintained their independence.

Wouldn't they probably be backrupt ?
I wasn't around at the time, but if they'd been doing well why would then have sold themselves out ?
Cakewalk still drops in now and then when it's necessary, and I appreciate that they do. Kind of like God speaking to us.

Hey everyone. Just happened by and saw this thread (thanks Keni!). I really do appreciate the sentiments and miss all of you as well. I really mean that. You all feel like family to me. I've been getting used to my new gig but, as the dust is settling, will try my darndest to drop in more often and chat to you all - about SONAR, about recording, about music and life. There are also some plans brewing for some live internet broadcasts as well... Anyway, Cakewalk is lucky to have such a great bunch of kind, passionate, and interesting people as its customers. I'll try to call home more often. Nite all, -Brandon

Hi Brandon... Thanks for dropping us a note. It was and is my pleasure to think of you and the wonderful charm you (amongst a few select others) have always brought to Cakewalk... I'm sure you're doing the same now for Roland and as the stars continue to shine, we all 'know' that Roland's great products really need some human interaction between the company and the users.... I hope they get it! The Cakewalk softwares continue to be my musical center (I consider it my "main instrument" these days! ;-)) I look forward to seeing/hearing from you whenever you find the chance is at hand... Rock a good life! Keni
