Missing Waveform View in Free Trial?

Hello,

Just setting up the producer free trial, looking forward to many more (hopefully better educated) questions once I get my bearings, but have one problem right off the bat.

My initial recorded tracks using a midi controller with a soft synth from Sonar appear as just lines, and I have no option within each track to select or deselect waveform preview. Sound quality is fine, got all my 24 bit and driver type issues ironed out, but cannot view any waveforms whatsoever. I checked and I do have the option to display waveforms while recording, and cannot find any other information about waveform preview simply not being present on the track.

Is this feature not available in the free trial? I cannot discern that either.

Would be glad to get into specs if this isnt a really newb problem, but hoping that it is.

Thank you!

    Welcome to the forum!
So you don't see "Rebuild waveforms" option anywhere ( right clicking the clips or where was it), either??

I don't know about the limitations of the trial version, unfortunately.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.
The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

No, there is no Rebuild Waveforms option. The only mention of waveforms I can find is in the general settings, where the option to "display waveforms while recording" is selected, but results in no waveforms on the midi track, nor any options to display them.

Still looking for more information about the limitations of the trial, but viewing and working with waveforms surely cannot be a restriction here?

Any further help or ideas are appreciated!

    Welcome to the forum.
I don't think you'll ever get a waveform to appear in a MIDI track.* You can get it to appear in the software synthesizer's audio track that the MIDI data is playing through.
What soft synth are you using?
Is there a 'Preview Waveform' button in that soft synth's track pane? In my software, it's between the S (solo) and RD (read) buttons.

*Your software may allow that, but I've never seen that in any of my versions of Cakewalk software.
