Missing samples in SI and custom patterns

Hi,

Q1
In SI Drums the currebt kit is set to default. If I try and select a different kit from the many provided, It comes back with an error stating that it can't find the sample for each drums/cymbal. This happens for just about every kit that I try. I have uninstalled and re-installed already.

Any ideas?

Q2
Am I able to create my own patterns in SI using the interface or a MIDI keyboard? I don't mean combining the provided loops but rather creating a custom pattern?

Thanks

Billy

    Hi Hacker,

Q1 I am using the fastrack but still the same issue. It looks more like the samples jsut aren't installed rather than a playback issue.

Q2 - Could you please extrapolate so I don't lay awake at night wondering how??

    Thanks

You can connect a midi keyboard/controller and create your own music. I use this all the time for creating bass parts and other parts like flutes and strings.

Basically you are recording the midi played live. You can then easily go back using PRV or Staff views to "fix/edit" the wrong notes or add new ones.

In all the years I have used MC and Sonar, I have experimented with the "stock patterns" a bit, mostly in the drums, but never really used them. I choose instead, other ways to make my tracks.

On the missing samples.... are you on MC5 or 6? If 5, did you download the latest update from the website? (never mind, I saw in another thread, you have 6)

Some time back, I DL'd some of the new Sound Center sound packs and one worked and the other didn't. It was some sort of issue between the proper update not being installed and the sound pack having a bug in it. It took several days to a week, working with the "Bakers" in support to get it installed and working correctly. I also think that the soundpacks did not install into the default directory so I had to go looking to find them. I just remember that there was about 7 to 10 days of try this, try that.... and finally, it all worked.

Sometimes, you just gotta hang in there and be patient.

    1) if you can load the default kit but cannot load the other kits, then that's a pretty odd problem.  let me just clarify that you know what you're doing, OK?    when you say you are trying to load a new kit, but it can't find them, are you trying to load a kit from the pull down menu at the top left of the SI Drums GUI?  the pull down list says "Agressive Kit, then Beat Pusher, Big Room Kit, CW Special, etc..?  and if you click on one of them then you get an error message stating that it can't find it?

if that's the case, just to the left of the pull down for the kits, there's a button that says PRG> click on that and then click on LOAD PROGRAM it will open the default location for loading those same kits in a windows explorer window.  The path should be:  c:\documents and settings\all users\application data\cakewalk\studio instruments\SI Drum Kit\Programs

and all of those kit sets with those names in the pull down menu with an extension of .prog should be listed in that folder.  is that what you see?  what happens if you open one of the kits from there?

    2) while herb has covered how you can create your own patters from a MIDI keyboard, you also asked if you could create your own patterns from the SI interface and the answer to that is NO, you cannot.  you can audition the sounds using the mouse, but you cannot create patterns by recording what you click on.  you can drag and drop MIDI patterns they have from the list onto the track (and you can also audition those using the play button and selecting them in each of the 4 slots) and then you can EDIT those using the Piano Roll View and a mouse, but you cannot record what you click on in the GUI.

you can also, however create your own patterns IN the PRV from scratch if you want.

    Hi Beagle,

When I click on the Prg - Load program  to open the kit options ans choose say "Studio Kit" I het an error for each component saying and I quote

    c:\program files\Cakewalk\studio instruments\SI-Drum Kit\Kits\DSF\Drum Kits\Kit 2 Kick.sfz  ( or snare.sfx et etc

Have resinstalled twice now. When I browse to the above location I find that those samples are indeed not there.

    Any any ideas?

    Thanks

PS have bought Jamstix for drums and now trying to work out how to get Jamstix to use the samples from SI if at all possible as I prefer the samples in SI to the Jamstix sample although the program looks great

ok.  then the problem is going to be in the installation of the SI drums.  are you running win7?  which flavor?  32 or 64bit?  it would be helpful to put that kind of information in your signature.

I don't think you will be able to use the samples from SI drums in jamstix.  typically companies don't like for you to use someone else's samples in their engine.

what you CAN do with jamstix, however, is export a MIDI track into MC then use that MIDI track to trigger SI Drums (once you get it working).

Getting jamstix to use the samples from other vendors is ...for me..... a kick my butt process.

I have done it,,, using the kits in Battery3 , but I do not recall the process. It involves having Jamstix subhost the other VST....some will work and some will not. Although the site does say "ANY" ....

From the RAYZOON site: integrated VSTi sub-hosting allows usage of any VSTi drum synthesizer, such as BFD™, DFHS™, EZDrummer™ and Addictive Drums™. Combine the sounds of your favorite drum plugin with the jam power and realism of Jamstix!

I think what I did was look it up in the JS manual and followed the directions given there.

BUT yeah...JS will sub host a bunch of the most popular drummers on the market.

There is a process where one imports the various kits from the "other" drum program into Jamstix. They then show up in the Jamstix list of available kits.

When they are selected, JS starts the host and uses it to play it's own kit but following the instructions from JS....as to drummer style, fills and so on. Editing and all that jazz is still classic JS.

I'm DLing the JS 3 upgrade and kits now....  So I'll be working with JS again for a time...over the next several months.  I had forgotten how useful it was...... actually I got lazy using BB drums....
