Oh man, I suspected as much.  Time to scrape some pennies together...

I really like these guys.  It's already a solid DAW, and gets better with each release.  I'm somewhat of a annoyance regular at their forum too.

Hm, nothing in the latest AARP magazine.  I'm gonna have to speak to their marketing department.

??
Is it an open beta?  If not, I'll pass.  While it's tempting to click on a German site I don't know, I'll get my info like everyone else -- I'll wait for Musician's Friend to accidentally post the ad a week before its release.

OK. On the German website there is a link to download an open beta from Mixcraft 8. The link doesn`t appear in my e-mail. I don´t find the download-link at the acoustica-site.

It's not an open beta (Meaning not anyone can play with the beta version). They have a forum for beta testers, and in one of the posts it says this:

"Anyone who wants to apply to be a beta tester can sign up here":

http://www.acoustica.com/beta/index.htm

So, while you can certainly apply to be on the beta team, the general public should not have access to any beta versions of the software.

You fill out all of that info and then get a page error.  Waste of time.

Doesn't really make me go Wow! with a potential $80 upgrade price.  Still doesn't have a real media browser like almost all DAWs.  Still not easy to use VSTs like Kontakt, Play, VSL.  Still opens a the virtual piano by default.  Not really seeing that much that would make me stop using my other DAWs.

KK, thanks for the summary.  I think some of those are pretty major features... I mean, I don't expect MC8 to have Steinberg running scared, but there's a definite niche appeal, to the home users who just want a solid feature-set without all the bells and whistles.
$80 for the upgrade sounds about right for the Pro Studio version.  MC7 Standard differs from the Pro Studio version only in the bundled plugins (the program is exactly the same in both packages).  I haven't found the "extras" to be that remarkable, so if they're more of the same with v8, I may drop down to standard.

So I take it you finally got the web page to cooperate...?  I'm tempted to DL and give it a whirl.
