What do you mean by "integrate"?

Are you looking for a mix board with a digital IO for your computer?

    or

Are you looking for a mix board that can send analog sound to your computer?

FWIW, I enjoy the sound of Soundcraft boards more so than many.

    Maybe a Soundcraft?

    best regards,

    Soundcraft

The EFX-8 doesn't look bad. I have a Alphatrack for (play, record , stop , rewind) so I dont need all of that function....I'm just looking for the option to control multiple faders and hands on control instead of the mouse thing all of the time.

Ah ok... that's sort of different from the two ideas I mentioned above.

You'll want some very specific advice for this.

I don't know much about SONAR and control surfaces so I hope some one else will offer some better info.

    best regards,

I don't think there are any mixing boards/control surfaces for $500, tho I could be wrong.

I think a mixer with CS control will be more than your budget.

If you just want control as opposed to audio in/out you'll be hard pushed to beat a BCF2000 for sheer value for money. I use MCU & XT now but used to use the BCF, 90% of the control of a Mackie at 10% of the price.

I use a A&H ZED-R16 which is 18in/18out audio expandable to 24 with ADAT device attached plus surface control but that kicks off around £1500. I think anything similar will be that sort of price.

Are you looking to record more than 1 mono/stereo track at a time?

Or multiple seperate tracks into X1?

I'm looking to be able to mix on a board as if I were doing it the way I would have done it on a full mixing console or in a live performance situation. And to record multiple tracks wouldn't be a disadvantage. Tweak the bottoms, mids and highs via the console perhaps.

You're not going to find anything at 500$. Save up and spend 1500$ and future proof for 4 - 5 years.

The only problem with the ZED-14 you linked to is you can only record the stereo pair from it. There's also no surface control. It's a completely different kettle of fish to something like my ZED-R16 but so is the price tag.

Any mixer with direct outs or even insert points should do what you want BUT you'll need an interface with as many in/outs as you want to record/mix at the same time. Great if you already have one but more expense if you don't.

Anything that is going to allow you to mix OTB via USB or firewire is going to have a hefty-ish price tag as well. There's no getting away from the fact that budget is going to be an issue.

So, It seems like the ZED-16R is what I'm really looking for. Huge price jump. (keep saving) Thanks for everyone's input. My quest continues.

Yeah the ZED isn't cheap but it is worth every penny. The only thing I'd change it for would be it's bigger brother the GSR24M. Now that is some money...

Put a USB port on something and it gives people the wrong impression.

You'll might check out Tascam FW-1884 as a few of us have here, it is discontinued from Tascam but sounds at it might fit your needs.
You should be able to pick one up for 3-500$.

but do your reading first - a few of them have blown Firewire ports or mic pre's :D

You can achieve 6-8 seperate lines in with something like-

    an MAudio FTU
and a mixing board with direct outs, sends, subs or all of the above (Something like the Mackie 1604VLZ can be found used cheap)

Mix through your board using the EQ, etc...   Route to outpus as needed into interface (FTU or something similar) and your there.
