If it's the same verison of X1 that ships with the ZED-R16 it'll be the LE version.

Allen & Heath stuff is great. Real classic stuff but I believe most of the ZED range (except the R16) are 2 in/out. That is of course reflected in the price difference though.

I think the term mixing console is a bit out of date with the typical DAW user.  It's more of a handy set of mic pres and EQs.  Most mixing being in the box for the majority.

The A&H has a reputation for good pres and I imagine the EQ section sounds a bit like my Soundcraft which has a Brit style EQ.  Compared to a Mackie 1604, I definitely preferred the Soundcraft.  I didn't think the Mackie sounded bad but it was harsh compared to the Soundcraft.

I don't know about the USB implementation though.  I think I would rather set up with a bunch of channel outputs going into 16 channels of AD/DA i/o and maybe use the USB in a pinch.  I always feel like these extra add on features are more of an afterthought for a "me too" marketing ploy. I think the mixer guys should do what they do and let the interface guys do what they do best.

All that said, I wouldn't mind having a Zed at all.

    My $.02.

Dave Modisette ... rocks a Purrrfect Audio Studio Pro rig.

The EQ is most definitely fantastic and the good thing is on the ZED-R16 it can be sent to print or just monitored and not printed. The whole thing can be used to mix completely OTB with either tracks or busses or a combo of both, coming back from the DAW through individual channels and mixed down to the stereo buss which can then be re-recorded into Sonar.

Or if you'd prefer any track or buss out from the DAW processed through any one of the channels and re-recorded back into a new layer in the same track. It's like an external insert on steroids. I use that a lot.

The routing on it is absolutely superb and I doubt there's a routing that isn't possible somehow. I wouldn't swap mine for anything..... except a GSR-24 and I'm in negotiations with my wife and organ transplant vendors on that.
