Mobile Pre Panning Problem
Hello, So I am kinda of new to the mixing game. Some help would be cool. I have a laptop And the output is going a Mobile Pre by M audio. However only the 2/R channel has any sound coming out of it. So when I pan I can't pan anything cause it all comes to center. To be clear the output goes to Mobile Pre to Powered Amp to Studio Monitors. I have two cables from 1/L and 2/R of the Mobile Pre going to seperate inputs on back of powered AMP...then to seperate Monitors.

What do you have playing on these tracks? Guitars or microhones? Keyboards? Some software synthesizer?

To be more clear. First of all thanks for the reply. I have imported all the tracks from a Thumb Drive from a friend he recorded them on his equipment at his house and I am mixing them at mine. so none of them were recorded on my device. but again they are Guitars, drums, harmonicas, keyboards, and vocals. Some were mic'd others were direct lines.

Okay. They may have been mono instruments (guitars, mics) recorded on stereo tracks, which will record on one side only. If the output meters are showing sound on one side only, then that's the case. Bounce each of the tracks down to split mono. That will give you each channel of each stereo track on a seperate track, one with the sound, the other with no sound. Delete the empty tracks and you should have mono tracks able to be panned. If that's not the case, it could be an output setting on your interface.

okay so i did the split mono bounce and deleted the old track and it still did not work. the meters in the console view are showing that volume is going to both left and right channels..... on the master when I pan all the way right I hear sound....when panned all the way left no sound at all. I am thinking it is an interface issue. Any idea on how to check that out?

Could be a bad cable. Swap the cables. Plug in headphones on MobilePre. Do you get both channel then?

Yes it pans in the headphones. So the problem is either the MobilePre configuration, the cable(s) to the power amp, or the monitors. Start by running the M-Audio Control Panel. You may have one of the faders turned down. Also check the Windows mixer to make sure you don't have the channel panned all the way right.

So I opened the Mobile pre control panel all the faders are the same level none are turned down. Then I clicked on the little Speaker icon in the taskbar to check the audio settings there ......my options were cd player, sw synth, and Wave and all of those were set to the middle on the pans...and volumes were all good. As far as the chords go......the channel that is good that is coming out of the mobile pre I use the same chord and switched it to the other channel and no sound...so the chord I used for the channel is good but no sound out of it. ...is there a way to route the sound out of specific channels right in Home studio.

What do you have set as the Output for the audio track? Should be something like Stereo Out 1/2. I'm assuming you have a mono track, not a stereo track that's only recorded on one side of the track.

Looks like it only has 2 outputs, so if it's under warranty, take it back for repair or replacement. Or get a splitter to attach the speakers to the headphone jack. Not ideal, but a temporary solution if the hp jack puts out enough power.
