Momentum - WTF???
Thought I'd find a thread here about this already, but unless I'm missing something....... Opened a Cakewalk email that seemed to be genuine today announcing a sneek preview of something called "momentum" in the form of some kind of video that didn't really work and then made my lappy have a funny turn which I had to stop by shutting down and re-starting. Lappy was fine after re-start, but I didn't fancy doing that again, so I deleted the email and figured that I'd just check out the news here instead, but nada....... So now I'm wondering......real or fake ?

I never get any emails from CW at all. It's been like that for years now. I remember they were going through and supposedly sorting people out who should have been on the list but weren't getting mails, and they supposedly sorted me out, but nothing changed. So Momentum was new to me as well. Maybe it will be cool! Or maybe not. Time will tell...

Totally the opposite for me. I used to ask all the time to be included on the list and hardly ever got any until I bought lifetime and they started straight after, the first few asking if I'd like to but lifetime updates (!) CW have somehow never managed to get the whole email thing right, which you'd think would be easy for computer geeks.

More weirdness. The two e-mails I got have the following subject lines: Introducing Momentum for iOS/Android/Mac/Win/VST/AU/AAX Mixing & mastering plug-in for you to check out ...but both contain nothing but a link, ostensibly to unsubscribe.

There was a heart symbol between the words "with" and "by", "made with love".

Yes, the email is legit. I had a look at that specific email's header, and it came through Marketo, CW's usual automated bulk-mailer service. My mail client (Thunderbird) routinely thinks it's spam, but it's how CW Marketing chooses to send out bulk mail.

It did kinda look that way, didn't it? So I guess it's not a Sonar-internal thing, but an add-on that can work with other DAWs as well.

The video restarted itself for me as well which was odd, then ran fine. Not quite sure what it is since it appears it may be a mobile app for rough tracking with a plugin-like app to bridge to a DAW.

I think it's Cakewalk's app for capturing ideas on the go with your smartphone, or wherever. Propellerheads (now Allihoopa, a Props spin-off corp) has had an app like this for a while now called Take (and another called Figure for beats). Younger people love this stuff apparently and so I believe Cakewalk is fairly astute in doing this, trying to change with a changing market -- if indeed that's what it ends up doing. Sort of a lightweight idea catcher that works wherever you are. The email header says: Introducing Momentum for iOS/Android/Mac/Win/VST/AU/AAX I think it's fairly harmless folks. Optional even. Check out Take for WTF I am talking about lol https://allihoopa.com/apps/take Edit: They now also have something called SoundTrap that looks even more capable for on the go stuff:https://allihoopa.com/apps/soundtrap
This is where things are going folks.

I got email, it's legit. It was Ableton live also, I think they were showing how to port into a DAW. It's looks a little like Loopy and I'm guessing is a pretty sweet spot to aim for in the market. I'd use to quickly build up an idea on the go and then slurp it into SONAR to continue. Hope it's great. And cheap for us. ;-)
