Mona Lisa (MRI) {work in progress}

this quick sketch kinda has a Queens of the Stone-age guitar feel in the verses. Alan is playing a Roland vKit which i'm not sure if i like compared to his acoustic Ludwig kit as it lacks 'air' but nonetheless is convenient for recording as no pre-amps/mics are needed. suffice to say though his drumming is nicely on point here. my guitar solo borrows a bit from rockabilly & Chuck Berry. in the 2nd & 3rd choruses (the "la dee da" parts) i sang falsetto through an octave divider to emulate 'little children'.  my plan is to have actual kids singing those parts eventually. in the choruses & the last verse i added a lot of room reverb to get that "The Mamas & The Papas" feel to my vocal.  the first verse i pulled the mids and lows way down on my voice to get that John Lennon singing though a megaphone effect like in Tomorrow Never Knows.

-------------------------------------------------

Oh Mona Lisa why are
You always smiling at me?
You know I can't take my eyes off you

Does Leonardo love you
The way I know you want me to
Does he brush your canvas favorably?

Looks like I'm waiting in line
Wishing, this time, my foot inside the door
Caught with a couple of crimes,
A couple a times
A couple of dopes

LA DEE DA, LA DEE DA DA, LA DEE DA, LA DEE DA... (2x)

Oh Mona Lisa why are
You always dialing away?
Can you play phone tag with a lunatic?

I'd like to meet you but not
In this here present century
Where melting glaciers drown the dirty earth

Looks like I'm waiting in line
Wishing, this time, to color in the fills
Buy me a gallon of gas
A liter of coke
And bottle of pills

LA DEE DA, LA DEE DA DA, LA DEE DA, LA DEE DA [ AH...] (2x)

Oh Mona Lisa why are
You always smiling at me?
You know I can't take my eyes off you

Does Leonardo love you
The way I know you want me to
Does this have a happy ending now?

This is the song I've been waiting to hear from you.  It has its own fresh sound, and was very enjoyable to listen to.  You described it perfectly in citing the Queens Of The Stone Age.  Your quick sketches are better than much of the finished product I often hear (including my own).

    All the best,

The vocal on the intro is too low to hear, but becomes more apparent when the track progresses. other than that well done.

This ones good, stuck with me. My opinion: pursue it, but work on the vocals and drums. Guitar is good. Drums need to snap more on the chorus, and the vocals; I like the "megaphone" thing, but they sound much better on the second verse than on the first. And on the chorus, (again, my opinion, but I would maybe re-think the "la dee da..." portion, try out different ideas....) Nice track though, has a "single" kind of feel...
