Monitor issues

Hey all - new here but happy to be on board.

When the track is not armed I can hear the monitor. When I arm the track: no more monitor. Why?

I have Sonar X1 and Creative Sound Blaster Fatal1ty sound card.

The SB has its own monitor control and it works fine but when I arm the track my monitor is gone. If I turn the track monitor on then I get tons of latency. If I adjust the latency to 1ms I still have latency. I would really like there to be no latency please (which is why I use the monitor on the SB card) so why does it shut down my monitor when I arm the track?

Thanks!

Ah yes, well, while that may be true (and I am sure there are better devices ie one with phantom power) this is the card I have currently and, let me see... it has all kinds of inputs, it has a good software interface, it handles all kinds of bit rates and such, so basically it has all the parts necessary to do the job.

OK maybe it is not ideal.. I don't know why, BUT and actual answer to the question might be helpful =) Soooo if you have one.... please advise.

the latency has to do almost solely to the soundcard's drivers.  some people have gotten soundblasters to work at low latency, others have not.  it depends on the drivers for your particular model of soundblaster.  you can adjust the latency by going to OPTIONS>AUDIO and moving the latency slider to the FAST side.  this might start causing popping, clicking, stuttering and even dropout.  then you have to move it back toward the SAFE side.

you can try ASIO driver mode but I've found not many SB cards work in ASIO driver mode depending on your operating system.  I know there are no win7x64 ASIO drivers for a lot of the SB cards and that has been a big complaint about them.

they're not designed for recording purposes - regardless of what the marketing hype leads you to believe - and that is my opinion and I'm sure an SB fan will say I'm wrong.  that's ok.

if the above doesn't help, you can also try ASIO4ALL.  google it, install it, then change to ASIO driver mode.  that might get you going until you can afford a recording soundcard.

if you're interested in buying a recording soundcard, check my website for soundcard recommendations.

My card works fine in ASIO. It comes with preference setting for "Recording Sound", and before this I did all kinds of research on ASIO4ALL and other types of things.

Before I arm the track it monitors fine - NO latency at all. Why does that change when I arm the track?

which bit rate and sampling rate are you using?
