Mooch has his 1967 Hofner 500/1 back and in working condition

my dad purchased this hofner in 1973 or 74 - he doesn't remember -  but believe it or not  I remember being in the music shop at 3 or 4 years old when he tried it out and bought it home along with a peavy bass amp that bapu likes to make fun off

well - the hofner had an issue with the neck and the pick up wiring in 1993 - it went dead and just sat around

My brother in law who is a guitar tech builds and designs guitars and pick ups for and  Seymour duncan -

he fixed it up for me so its all good

and I have it back in great playing condition

I can't put the things down

I'll post video and pictures - when I calm down

    Very cool.
I can tell you're excited because you can't hold still enough to take a decent picture.
(But seriously I wish I had a brother in law that worked on guitars... mine works on Harleys and Indians.... neither of which I have.)

I played a Hofner classical guitar at Naperville Music that was relatively inexpensive, played well and had a pleasant clear sound.  If I hadn't already spent a lot more on a Picado I might have gone for it.  It was a refreshing find, because I thought they only made those cello looking basses.  They make good stuff.

Really great to see such a fine instrument staying in the family.

Then why do you allow Bapu to roam around here so much if you want quality?

    Good question.

I don't have any answer to that.

btw I just noticed in Bapu's and your current avatars both of your arm positions are identical.  Is this some sort of coded pose?  Spookier still is that you both have sweatbands on your wrists.

But my wristband is there to keep my camera hand steady.

    So is Mooch's.

Imagine what his Hofner pictures would look like without his wristbands.

    Nice. I love old guitars.
My brother the tax assessor is/was in the process of acquiring replicas of all the Beatles's guitars a few years ago. I wonder if he has one yet.

Blimey a two and a half grand clunker.

I wonder what they cost out of the original 'Bells' catalogue.

(damn I can remember the original 'Bells' catalogue)

You guys just need image stabilization.

PS - that's a gorgeous bass.  It looks like a really low serial number - is that the case, or is part of the number obscured?
