More Gibson history...
My first 'name' guitar, circa 1981, Gibson Sonex-180 Deluxe. It's a heap of rubbish really, but I can't bear to part with it. Broke the headstock off it about 2 years after I bought it, and my Dad glued it back together. Still plays OK.

I like the colour mate, it looks like a nice dark hue of 'chestnut' brown

That looks pretty cool to me!
In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.

This one's not black . It's a '76 S-1, the only Gibson I own, and the closest thing I have to a strat. Solid Maple, and feels like it, every pound. I've never really gotten comfortable with the fat neck, but I love the Buck Rogers pick guard. it does produce an interesting range of sound. A close up of those pups. The heart of the S-1

Gawd I'm feeling old! I consider myself a Gibson "guy". What the hell is an S-1 or Sonnex whatchamacallit? I guess my "expertise" ends circa 1968-69; after that everything just sort of went to hell.... (this is now a Gibson forum, right? maybe I should just keep my mouth shut? But children, its no longer your daddy's Gibson. Gibson, Inc. Kalamazoo, Mich. that is!) Banned for life??????? T

Cool James. It has Velvet Brick humbuckers- if you didn't know... Bill Lawrence designed them while working with Gibson and they are not like any other HBs'. To pickup makers it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't become worth a lot of coins if not already.

nice guitars James , Bob ,and DeeringAmps . I remember both the Sonex and The Marauder …Hey , I wouldn't mind having either one of those guitars. I can be reached at ………. heres a few links for some of the fellas here that are interested or want to know more about them ... http://www2.gibson.com/News-Lifestyle/Features/en-us/gibsons-5-freakiest-706.aspxhttp://www2.gibson.com/News-Lifestyle/Features/en-us/living-in-the-70s-the-gibson-marauder-0725-2012.aspx Spacey , when I worked on West 48 th street in N Y C . I had multiple encounters with Bill Lawrence he was a very flamboyant character back then ( late 70's early 80's), the first time I met him he walked into the music store decked out with a custom made sheepskin coat with a gigantic fur collar ..lets just say he didn't just walk in the room ….he took it over …he comes up to me and asks me if I have a credit card … i laugh at that question and say to him look Bill I'm working in the guitar dept , I'm lucky if when I get my paycheck that i will even have two nickels to rub together ….. ( i used to take guitars home and just keep them ….the store was cool w that and they let me pay them off ) so , Bill gets a credit card rubs it on the ground , grabs an acoustic guitar a cable and gets the guitar to play out of an amp amplified with that rig…. everybody was like what ? ..he said it 's the concept of a guitar pick up …. anyway, Bill liked to hold court and give all the guitar players something to think about ... Kenny PS , I'm wondering when James is gonna post a pic of his Lester ...

Not Daddy's LP and not my first, but Lucy plays mighty fine in my hands.
