More Snake Oil

If you love oxygen-free cables, ultrasonic tweeters and magic stones, you'll absolutely want to add this item to your collection.

It's a plastic outlet cover, the kind you buy at Home Depot for fifty cents. But this product is a special version for audiophiles (synonymous with "suckers"), and a real bargain at only thirty bucks each! Or even better, four for $99!

So you're still wasting your time and money on acoustical treatments? These plastic covers, "prepared using proprietary materials-processing techniques" will "produce a remarkably powerful, detailed and focused sound."

Be sure to read the testimonials at the bottom. They're hilarious.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Cracking on this would be too easy -- almost cheating. Let's talk about the stack of coins on top of the speaker cabinet, or the jackets for speaker cables that go on with Velcro, like clothing made for dogs.

Want to make some money ? Just come up with some silly idea and start selling stuff. If I could find a source for gold plated wall sockets I'd sell them for at least $100 per plug.. OK, maybe $199 for a dual, hows that ?

    *Edit*

CRAP ! it's already been done.. oh well mine would be better quality... http://eugenehifi.com/FIM/htm/FIM_AC_Products.htm

Good point, Frank. I guess a lot of times we don't perceive a need for something until we see it for sale. That is to say, you don't realize that something could make a difference until you see someone selling special ones.

I'm gonna' replace all my outlets in my studio with those Tru-Tone covers but I'm getting that "clever little clock" Clockwork Orange first because it seems to have more impact on the sound quality.

    Thanks for this discovery Bitflipper....

Unfortunately, it is not a joke.

See this email exchange between the manufacturer and a would-be reviewer: James Randi

And an earlier reference regarding the socket covers specifically. To quote Randi: "No, this is not a gag, folks.".

Can I use those products together with my new Frybaby? Or will it adversely affect the cable-conditioning? Please help, thanks. I do hope those covers have a decent manual.

Don't laugh, guys. Thse things really work!
I put some of the cover plates in my studio and noticed an immediate improvement.
So I decided to try some in my workshop. Now my table saw stays sharp much longer, and all my dovetail joints are spot on. When I spray the final finish on a piece of woodwork, the harmonic dispersion of these plates makes the clear coat lay down with a perfect sheen.
I put one in the living room, and now the story lines of all our DVDs are 20-40% more interesting.

Hmmm... maybe I can get a partner for this idea I have about aerosol sound insulation that comes with an egg carton adapter and duct tape so you can make your own Sonex or Auralex panels.

You have to slice it real thin, and then demagnetize it with this baby, cooks faster guaranteed - turkey has carbon too, see - same as CD's and vinyl - they need to be demagnetized first ($1800!)

They are universally compatible, but Cubase users will have to order the dongle option with their magic plates.

"The very best sound was obtained when I slightly loosened the screws on the Duplex Covers. And they sound great!!...definitely a more three dimensional placement of performers and more of the soundstage image seems to reside behind the wall."

"The outlet covers improved audio and video as well."

    Thanks, bitflipper.
One of the more entertaining posts of the year, actually.

I rarely every type "ROTFLMAO," but in this case, I actually nearly fell off my chair reading the above quoted testimonials.

    VIDEO?
BEHIND THE WALL? Why would you want that? (What does that mean, anyway?)

    Awesome stuff, truly.

GE used to make those light bulbs, but they were declared a controlled substance in '74.
However, I have a friend who knows a guy that might be able to get one.
