More VST weirdness...

My buds problems continue to grow and get weirder. He bought both the integral bundle and cosmos from nomad factory/don't crack, successfully installed and authorized them and can see them being seen by Sonars scan (many times). But they still don't show up in the plugin manager. We've rebooted, rescanned and I even copied the .dlls to a new folder and scanned that. No love.

He's using X1pro build 184. Were there any VST problems with that version? Is that the latest X1 update?

He still does not have EZDrummer working yet either. We're both getting fairly frustrated.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

So the VSTs show up in Plugin Manager under effects?

I am using Sonar X3b Pro 64bit and I notice that sometimes a 32bit plugin will get hosed in Plugin Manager and not show up.  A little .dll moving, playing in the Plugin Manager and all is right again.

Usually it's not a bit deal.

EZ drummer as well as SD2 both show up in my VST Instruments plugin manager listings.  I don't have any issues with those plugins.

I haven't installed and reg'd my Nomad Factory stuff yet so I don't know if there are issues or not.  Hopefully this weekend I will have more time to install everything.

I do not believe that is X1d. I have X1 Producer Expanded installed and the X1d build number is 535. It should show the version just to the left of the build number. X1 must be patched to X1c before applying X1d get the patches from here http://www.cakewalk.com/S.../product.aspx/SONAR-X1

@Machineclaw...No they are NOT showing up at all in the plugin manager.

@Scook...I'll have him update to X1D and see if that helps.

Do you see them if you check the "show excluded" option?

Haven't tried that but will. It's further complicated by the fact that I'm walking him through troubleshooting the problems over the phone with no computer here to look at while I'm doing it. I have to rely on my gin addled memory for all of the menus and drop downs...sheesh.

Just a thought, Have you done a search of the registry to see if they show up in the "inventory" list?

Just another thought, They used to have freeware programs that would allow you to connect and remote control another machine over the net. This would probably make life a lot easier for you.

And now for my reality/pessimistic thought. If your buddy has just been deleting programs vs. a controlled uninstall the registry is probably in a state that will never be corrected without a clean O/S install. I understand that can be a time consuming task but would reduce the chances that he will continue to have problems now and down-the-road. A back up plan, even just a restore point, could also save a lot of future headaches or the kind that shoot much lower...

Not trying to sound negative just wish I could be of more help.

Hope you get it sorted soon.

if your friend is using X1 pro 32bit and has installed 64bit plugins they will not be seen or show up in plugin manager.

if X1Pro 64bit it shouldn't matter which plugin 32 bit or 64 bit as BitBridge would kick in and plugins will work.

so there's another thing for ya to check.

I know it might be a pain but have your friend install free trial of Reaper and see if that works with EZ drummer or other VST plugins.

this may help narrow down a problem if it's a Sonar issue , a plugin issue or just computer issue.

hard to do over the phone, good luck with that.

Got EZDrummer working. Even though it put the dll in C\program files\cakewalk\vst we had to include a C\common files...tree in Sonars VST scan paths as well. That did it.

Nomad Factory still no show in the plugin manager. I even tried installing some other vsts and they all work perfectly. Go figure. I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually. I'm like a snappin turtle...I won't let go till it thunders.

Not sure if this is it Olpal, recovering from some  VST weirdness here too. Are you scanning any folders with VST 3 plugs in it. To be sure, launch the plug in manager and click on VST 3 effects. If there are any there, chances are you won't find the VST 2.  If you need to exclude any of the folders with the VST 3 the location of the VST 3 dll should be displayed at the bottom of the plug in manager. If you exclude the folder and rescan, it may work. It has for me for the projects I need to work in X2.

FWIW, the default location that Cosmos wanted to install here was C:/ Program files/ Steinberg... I changed that to C:/ Program Files/ Cakewalk/ Vst.... and all woks well here. Hope you get it sorted

We've tried uninstalling/reinstalling them in both folders. We've rescanned eleventy jillion times. Rebooted many times as well.

Sonar sees them...scans them...but won't show them in plugin manager...even as excluded plugs.

The dll files are there in the correct folders.

All other vsts are working fine.

I hate not being able to fix this.

Sheesh.
