I'm guessing that Davy got stars in his eyes over some girl.  Unfortunately, she thought Peter was a brilliant mime and fell head over heels for him.  Meanwhile, Mike and Mickey accidentally got mixed up in Nigerian Royalty financial scam.

Spurned by the object of his affections, Davy's attempts to win her heart grew increasingly bizarre.  Upset by Davy's actions towad his new romantic interest, Peter used his newfound mime skills to seal Davy in an invisible box.  Mike grew concerned that the Nigerian Royalty project may not be completely legitimate, but Mickey convinced him to invest their combined assets in it.  The forms they signed looked very official, were unbelievably long, and carried the official Nigerian Royal Crest.

Peter, blinded by his growing obsession with his latest crush failed to notice that she sometimes spoke with a Nigerian accent.  Still sealed within the invisible box, Davy struggled, but could not break free.  In his despair, he wept openly.  Mike and Mickey discovered that all of their money had been stolen in the scam.  Mickey broke down.

Peter followed his true love to her place, only to find that she was really dating a tall dark man with a large mustache.  Peter crept closer and overheard their diabolical plot to use their scam to break up the Monkees and isolate Davy.  Once he was vulnerable, they'd kidnap Davy and hold him for ransom.

Not waiting to hear more, Peter raced back to the Monkees' pad.  Inside, he found Mike and Mickey sobbing.  Not knowning why, Peter promptly joined them.  At length, he managed to explain their predicament to the other two.  For no apparent reason, they immediately broke into "The Last Train to Clarksville", hopped in the Monkeemobile, and ran around aimlessly.

Meanwhile, Davy, still trapped in his invisible box, was being loaded into a rusty van by his kidnappers.  Davy sang along with the song, even though the other Monkees did not appear to be within earshot.  The van drove away, only to be forced off the road by the sudden arrival of the Monkeemobile.

As Davy flew out of the back of the van, the band ran around madly, continuing their song.  The kidnappers, the girl, a random police officer, and a kid with some cotton candy got caught up in the Monkees' insane antics.  Davy suddenly found himself wearing the police officer's uniform.  Mike and Mickey somehow ended up wearing the kidnapper's outfits.  Peter was dressed as a kid holding cotton candy.

The actual police officer, currently wearing a dress, high heels and a stunning hat, arrested everyone, just to be safe.  At the police station, the story was sorted out.  Davy apologized to Peter for trying to win his girl.  Peter apologized to Davy for being a far better mime than he realized.  Mike apologized to Mickey for being suckered by the scam and losing their money.  Mickey apologized to the world for being himself.

The police officer examined the evidence they had collected, including the documents Mike and Mickey had signed.  He showed the boys the papers, which they now read for the first time.  Mike was the first to realize that these papers actually conferred a title of Duke to all four Monkees.

With their new positions as Nigerian Royalty, they immediately started an extensive email compaign designed to raise funds...

I suspect their ego were all inflated when Rise of the Planet of the Apes was released.

... but in any event, this is why I watched the Banana Splits when I was little ... Splits were a better band than the Monkees on any given day!  Plus the Splits played their own instruments.

And they wrote the chorus for Bob Marley's Buffalo Soldier too I believe.

    I just spotted this:

    http://www.ocregister.com...-monkees-abruptly.html

At least they claim it's not personal, health issues or Re-hab.  It doesn't sound so dire.

And the only Monkee that matters was never even along for the ride.

And even he wrote few of the best songs.

I happen to love Pleasant Valley Sunday, but it was written by Gerry Goffin and Carole King.

I like Steppin Stone, but that was written by Boyce and Hart and first heard by Paul Revere and the Raiders

Valleri was written by Boyce and Heart

I'm a Believer was a Neil Diamond song

I appreciate parts of the Monkees as it was a cultural phenomenon that I was privy to.  Yeah they were the pre-fab 4 and 80% of their music was terrible, but there were some good ones.

Head is a great psychedelic movie.  And if I recall correctly, Head was the first LP that the MOnkees musicians (?) actually had a major role in the song writing.  Then again, the best song on there is the Porpoise Song, which was Goffin/King.

Nesmith was the only true musician in the group (and the pioneer of music videos with his legendary Elephant Parts).
