Most reliable NAS for under $1000.
I'm getting to the point that I want a NAS for additional backups (already use external USB drives but I want double protection). Does anyone have experience with a NAS that will be activated only on access. IOW I want a NAS that powers off the hard drives but fires up on LAN access. No sense wasting electricity whle not in use. I'm thinking 4TB. I suppose I could just build a computer to do it but I'm wondering if a NAS is not the better way to go. Thoughts?

I've used Buffalo NAS for 5 years or so, I have a 2T small box about 2 years old and a 500Mb that is 5+ still going strong. I use a 2T at work for weekly backups. Never had one fail.

If you want ultimate security you can have 2 and they will auto-mirror each other.

what will you do with next weeks posts? Perhaps Karen can repost them under her name, so she can up her post count as well. Maybe you two can recycle each others posts, -- Just think of how fast your post count will shoot up!
