Motherboard suggestions.....

Updating my computer with a new cpu and motherboard... I have decided on an i7  (i2600 or i2600k).  Been looking on new egg and there are so many motherboards out there.   I am fond of Asus stuff and it's what I've used for a while.  Any suggestions on a mobo out there.  I have a graphics card and run a duel monitor setup so I don't need video on the board.....It seems like most of them are geared for games.  I do need a 1394 port for my interface.

Thanks....

    , especially the daw builders.
    Good luck

you know what thats a schmuck answer and totally uncalled for.
both Jim and i help a lot of people in this forum. and we make a lot of recommendations. and we dont have to.
the one thing we wont discuss comes at a high price to us. (or at least for me)

to validate a new platform (mulitple interfaces, PCI, PCIe, USB/FW) plus DSP cards (and a mic of both)and mulitple software
and then add to that PTHD cards.. its cost me $5-6k by the time its done (when including video editing hardware/software)
i get boards/processors like 2 months before release and it usually takes that long to get it done.

why the heck would i give out that info? nice guy stops at a certain point

    nChardy,
I'm also in a similar situation and my recommendation would be to see what other Sonar users are using(in their sig with i7). Research some of these boards and see if one matches your needs. Once you do a bit of research, re-post your findings and narrow down the choices on your preferences.
    Good luck with your upgrade!!

I just learned that X58 boards (I7 920,940, 950 etc..) don't support the fastest speeds for ssd SATA 3 disks and there won't be any fix coming out because X58 is now "old" technology. I am never going to pay mega for the "newest thing" again hoping it will last 5 years.

The ASUS P8P67Pro is tried and true, and will work with the I-2600 / I-2600K processors. The ASUS Z68 boards are also getting good reviews.

Umm X58 most certainly has Sata 600 ports (sata 3 if you will)
not that it matter other than for SSDs (which you mentioned)
you can also add a controller card
asrock may not have Sata 600 ports due to it being a budget board..

    Yes but....
"The x58 platform uses marvel chipset. You will not get the full speed of the vertex 3 on it. You need a sandybridge or amd chipset.  Check ocztechnologyforum.com for more info."
    And
"For the X58 SLI3 the red ports are controlled by a Marvell chipset and are SATA III.  It is connected to the board's chipset via a PCIe x1 lane.  For most SATA III drives this is not an issue unless you have a very fast SATA III drive in which case the x1 connection may bottleneck the throughput for access. "
It isn't just the Marvel drivers screwing things up it's the Marvel hardware.
