Motif XS VST not showing up in Sonar 8.3

HELP! why can’t I see the XS Rack VSTi??? My vst scan is not packing it up, I see the DLLs and I see the directory listed in the VST Tool????
Does anyone know why? I wana be able to use this synth from within Sonar 8 as a VSTi.

Aaaah, forget about it, it's been an endless source of frustration since I bought mine last year. Don't buy the m-lan board, if you already did that, sell it, because it'll never work with Sonar. I like my XS rack, but I only use it as a regular MIDI module. It's very clean and my interface is very clean too, no problem with getting the sound into Sonar "the old way."

no I hate mlan crap, analog out stright into ADAT, I just got this RACK after selling my motif XS 6 on ebay. it's brand new I just got it today from a local guitar center. so I guess I should uninstall the 32bit and 64bit VSTs.
is USB midi ok though or should I use the MIDI in the back? usb gives me 4 ports i am only using 1.

    Thanks

The Yamaha USB/MIDI driver works OK (even in 64-bit) and it's a lot faster than MIDI for creating/editing patches and sending them to the module. The editor is OK too, although the GUI sucks rocks. Yes, get rid of the VST's, they'll never work anyway.

That's cool, my system is all clean now, the only thing is, I returned the M-Audio Axiom 25 midi controller and instead of getting spectrasonics omnisphere got yamaha XS rack instead. Lot more money but does not need PC power to run.
Yamaha guitar arps, are just unmatched by any virtual or real synth out there. Which brings me to my next question, is there an easy way to switch arps, enable disable then on different parts without using the really small screen? ?

Yeah, you could use the editor.

The new Yamaha Editor won't work... because it's a VST3 plugin.
I believe Steinberg is the only (major) DAW software currently using the VST3 spec.
I'm sure this wasn't by coincidence...

It's like everything else Yamaha did with the Motif going back to the original one - nice idea but the execution is severely flawed. Mine (Mo7) just get's used as a MIDI controller and not for the osunds except for just doodling around.

Cool, Got the editor installed they only have 32 bit version but who cares , I also had to install the “container” studio manager. But the cool thing is I can run the editor and sonar at the same time no midi conflict and save the setting same name as the project. Motif XS is such a good product with such a horrible and counter initiative interface. Came with a sequencer but yuck! AI4! never!

It won't work as a Sonar plug-in, but you can use it as a standalone program within Yamaha's own wrapper (Studio Manager.) It can multi-task with Sonar, without creating trouble.

Jims got that one right!!! I've been using a pair of Motifs for several years & while the USB functionallity is a great feature, I got more pain than pleasure using USB vs straight Midi... Then again I use a large amount of Midi Gear & the USB connectivity as you pointed out takes up several USB assignments...Wildman

My rack XS is connected via regular MIDI cable, but I use the USB connection for the editor, because MIDI would take much longer to transfer patches to and from the computer, not to mention I don't believe Studio Manager would work through a straight MIDI connection. Yes, it's a PITA that every time I have to change the MIDI I/O assignment in the module from USB to MIDI and vice-versa. I know, it's supposed to be fully integrated in your DAW, but that happens ONLY if you use Cubase.

    Get John Melas' editors/librarian for the Motif ES/XS -- they're great. www.jmelas.gr/motif

Studio Manager requires 2 ports, which is why you need the USB or mLAN connector. Full studio manager support was never built into Sonar, but there is a Melas plug that will load a Mix/Multi file into your Motif on project opening. (This multi file is compatible with his Mix Editor, not the standard Yamaha editor.)

I've been using mLan with Sonar for years, and it's great even without Studio Manager.

I tried the mlan board and it didn't work. Maybe it's because my system is fully 64-bit (Sonar 8 x64 on Vista 64.) As for the editor, although the GUI is horrible (got used to it...), it works and I don't need to buy another one.

I am ok with the Yamaha GUI on XS editor it’s just a pain that you have to open studio manager 1st then open the real thing. And I don’t mind using USB as long as it does not crash Sonar 8.I am fully 64bit as well Vista 64, Sonar 64, could not get the sampletank to work. Talking to IK about that and they said they are aware of this issue and are working on it.
